REMEMBERING SAM LEONOR — A memorial was held Sabbath, February 26, at the Fletcher Church, for our past president. Along with several presenters was his son Sam Leonor Jr., who is also the featured presenter at AWAKEN, a three-day conference for young adults held at Nosoca Pines Ranch, February 25-27. — Our friend and the past president of CRAN, Samuel “Sam” Leonor passed away on January 28, at the age of 80. — Sam was born in the Dominican Republic on December 29, 1941, to Rogelio and Altagracia Leonor. He was the third of nine siblings and was raised in a deeply spiritual home where he learned the value of hard work and perseverance in the face of adversity. These traits shaped his character and were just few of the reasons he was so loved and appreciated. — Sam received a degree in business administration and accounting from Antillean College in Puerto Rico and served the Seventh-day Adventist Church for 42 years. He was a hospital administrator in Nicaragua; Montemorelos, Mexico; Orlando, Florida; Killeen, Texas, Avon Park, Florida and Puerto Rico. He was also treasurer for the Central American Union Conference. During this time, he was ordained to the gospel ministry, which was especially meaningful to him. Sam’s last position was a corporate risk management director for ADVENTIST Health Sunbelt (now AdventHealth).
In retirement, Sam loved being a part of and leading in his local church and serving as president of the Carolina Retirees Association Northwest (CRAN). If you asked Sam, he would tell you that his greatest accomplishments had nothing to do with his career, but instead were being a husband to Damaris for 58 years, a father to three children and grandfather to six. He was also proud of being part of a large and very close family and being available to those who called him friend. In his own words, his greatest joy was “helping others to get ready for the second coming of Jesus.”
REMEMBERING SAMUEL LEONOR SR. — We cordially invite you to remember and celebrate Sam’s life on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 3 PM, at the Fletcher Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The family kindly request all in-person attendees be fully vaccinated against COVID 19. Properly worn masks will also be required. The event will be available online for those who are not able to attend. https://fletchernc.adventistchurch.org/
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to donate to one of the charities that Sam faithfully supported:
1. Homeward Bound, an organization seeking to end homelessness in western North Carolina. https://homewardboundwnc.org/
2. Adventist Seminary in Cuba, an education institution training pastors for the work of gospel ministry. Please e-mail Luis Leonor at — [email protected]
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Samuel Leonor, past president of CRAN. Samuel passed away Friday afternoon, January 28, between 6-7 PM. The family reports that It was a short and very peaceful transition. He rested just as the Sabbath was beginning. Samuel was surrounded by his immediate family as well as a few others. Some of his grandkids spoke with him through FaceTime. His siblings were able to Zoom with him for a few minutes. Sam’s faith was strong as the family sang to him and read many passages from the Bible that gave him comfort and hope. As plans are made a memorial service will be announced.

STEWPOT GENEROUS LIVING
For Samuel Leonor, president of CRAN, the challenges were never ending. The previous year, 2020, due to the pandemic was a total shut-down. However, for this former hospital administrator, planning an event during a total shut-down proved to be just another creative challenge as this once hospital administrator now turned “Movie-Producer,” planned and produced the entire production of the “Fall Retreat” on video. The retreat production then was broadcast on You Tube and on the Carolina Conference Roku channel. — This years event held at the Fletcher church included devotionals by Charles Ferguson, Faith Stories with Barry Mahorney, Health topic with David White and the feature presentation by Randy Tryon, MD, with AdventHealth.
The Carolina Retirees (CRAN) recently met at the Fletcher church for their annual Fall Retreat. Due to the pandemic these past two-years have been challenging for this group. What was different this year was the fact that a three-day-event at NOSOCA Pines Ranch was going to be a risk due to the insurgence of the Delta virus. The Retirees instead had a safely held local event at the Fletcher church.
