22 years Chance Chiropractic Center! We are so grateful! Thank You!!!!!

01/01/2022

We want to thank you for reaching out to see if we are okay at Chance Chiropractic Center. We are so lucky to have such wonderful and caring people in our lives. The 400 McCaslin building was spared from the fires and will open back up to our normal schedule on Monday, January 3rd.
We know that many may have lost their homes and everything in it and others displaced temporarily during the fires and the aftermath. We are here for you any way we can help. We will take care of your appointments (current patients) for the next year as part of our help to rebuild our community. It is not easy to ask for help, but we want you to know we are here for you. We know it's not much for such a loss but if we can ease a little bit of the suffering we are glad to help.

Legs Up the Wall pose helps bring blood and lymph flow to your heart (especially great for varicose veins). It’s great for relaxing at the end of your day because this pose decompresses your spine AND releases relaxing chemicals for anti-stress and anxiety. Practice this pose before bed to help you sleep or when you want to just relax deeply. Don’t believe me? Try it for 3 minutes every day and see for yourself. Let me know how you like it!
You don’t need an inversion table to get the benefits of going upside down.

What happens to your body on an inversion table?
1) Your back muscles relax. Unless you have an acute spasm or disc issue (do not attempt unless your doctor is consulted and consents), inverting 45 degrees 1-2 minutes at a time can help your muscles relax.
2) As a result of relaxation, your disc spaces decompress. This in time changes the density of your discs and increases disc height.
3) As the spaces expand, your nerves become less compressed. Less compressed discs means less nerve pain/numbness and increase tissue healing. This is especially true for sciatic symptoms.
4) Studies also show that bringing blood flow to your head is a good way to prevent migraines (not during a migraine).
5) Going upside down activates your parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) and decreases your fight and flight response. We could all use a little of that.
6) It’s a great way to manage your chronic low back pain in between your adjustments.

Inversions tables cane be found on online market places or your neighborhood garage sale. They are no long a high price item even though value remains the same. Most basic types can be bought used for around $100- depending on the seller and the special add-ons, like heat or movable parts.

Dry needling can get to deep muscles and release your body’s own chemicals for management. Imagine a trigger point massage, but in the deepest muscles that don’t get the attention they need. Scar tissue, adhesions, joint injuries, arthritis, chronic or acute pain, and areas that haven’t healed on their own…are all problems dry needling can help.

The best back stretch targets your connective tissues: discs, ligaments, fascia, and tendons.
Do this stretch at the end of the day, before bed. If you don’t have the props (blocks, bolsters) you can bend without them. Read the directions before you try this at home.

Where to start low back month? Let’s talk Piriformis Muscle!

Keep your back healthy by stretching your piriformis muscle. When your piriformis is tight, your pelvis is off. Plus this muscle affects your sciatic nerve and can pinch it (called Piriformis Syndrome).
Regular stretching of this muscle benefits your back, hips, posture, and well being. I call this the “chocolate” of stretches because it’s so yummy!

Believe it or not, this does not hurt at all!
Getting dry needling in my face for a class. (That’s why there are red ink marks by the needles.) Dry needling works great for headaches, neck pain, sinus problems, jaw pain... you name it! It works a little differently than traditional acupuncture because the aim is to release patterns of scar tissue, trigger points, and inflammatory patterns in the muscles.

What does Your Axis Do?

Your Axis moves your head left and right. It also innervates the skin of your head and neck. When your axis is misaligned due to injury or repetitive stress, you will have symptoms such and vision or eye issues, sinus congestion, brain fog, and insomnia. You may also have difficulty moving your head to its fullest range of motion.
When your chiropractor assesses this area we look for full participation in your range or motion, we make sure your muscles are working properly and not tight or weak. We want to make sure you have optimum nerve and blood flow to all the places related to C2.
A Directional Non-Force Technique™️ chiropractor can make sure your axis joint, which connects to C1 above and C3 below, and all of the muscles, ligaments, and discs are also contributing to a properly functioning joint.
Wouldn’t it be great for your neck to be relaxed, without pain and stress? You will notice how much better you feel, especially if you have any of the symptoms listed above.

Thanks to my hairdresser Janina who builds up a rubber cushion with extra towels, my neck doesn’t suffer when I get my hair done.
Past posts have shown your delicate vagal nerve and your vertebral artery can get compressed where the back of your head meets your C1 vertebra.
I’ve seen patients at my office with misalignments in this area causing vertigo and headaches.

Ask your hairdresser to hook you up with extra towels if the sink is uncomfortable. It may save you a trip to the chiropractor. 😉

Do you have headaches or get dizzy?
Sometimes headaches and dizziness comes from a misalignment in your neck causing blood flow in the brain to decrease. Not all symptoms can be attributed to vertebral artery compromise, but if your neck is in proper alignment, your chances of having a block in the artery are low.
Your chiropractor is an expert at maintaining your neck alignment so a visit might be in order if you have these symptoms.

🛑 stop every hour and do these neck exercises.
Keeping your neck range of motion in your joints and muscles is so important. Many people have overworked, knotted up, and misaligned necks. Not only does it cause pain, it also causes lack of focus and productivity. Don’t wait until your neck is a problem before you start taking care of it. Self care now and your future self will thank you. 😉

Your neck alone has 13 chains of lymph nodes that travel throughout your body.

The lymphatic system parallels your circulatory
system (that’s huge!), and transports immune cells, debris, proteins, lipids, and fluids.

The muscles of your neck are responsible for the flow of fluid from your lymph nodes down your body.

Swollen lymph glands can mean that you have an infection in your ears, throat, sinuses, or lungs.

When your neck is adjusted your muscles are more
relaxed which increases your fluid circulation,
boosts your immune system, and helps you
fight infections.

Another great reason to see your chiropractor for neck adjustments.

Chiropractic: It’s not just for pain.

Fun fact: giraffes have the same number of cervical vertebrae as human do, seven.

Did you know that your vagus nerve exits you spine around your C1 vertebra and connects to all your organs, your senses, your blood vessels and so much more? The Vagal nerve runs along your spinal column and balances out your fight or flight response and the opposite, your “rest and digest” nervous system. It is SOOO important that your entire physiology can change when it’s in its proper alignment.
