What are 3 traits of a really great website?

1. We want our site to be easy to navigate. If someone is looking for our location, so they can see how far we are from their office, that should be easy for them to find. If they want to learn who we are and what it’s like to work with us, that should also be easy to find. If they want to know what we offer, or when we’re available next, again, that should all be fairly easy for them to find.

2. We want it to demonstrate our expertise. Whether this is with our credentials, the number of dogs we’ve helped in the last year, or via a testimonial from a happy client, we want to include information throughout our site that shows we know what we’re talking about and we’re good at our job.

3. We want it to show we can solve their problem. What problems do your customers usually have that lead them to your website or your business? If you’re a dog trainer, maybe it’s that their dog has no manners — they jump up on houseguests! Think about the problems your customers face, and whether it’s clear on your website that you can help solve those problems!

I’ve recently heard from a few dog trainers who are having email problems — their clients aren’t getting their emails! Sometimes it’s their personal emails, sometimes it’s their email newsletters, and other times it’s emails from their booking platform. But while things used to work seamlessly, they’re finding email problems have popped up in the last few months.

Some of them may vaguely remember getting an email mentioning that they needed to set up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records for their domains, but the emails sounded technical and, frankly, overwhelming. So they put it off until later and figured they’d deal with it if it caused issues. And now they’re seeing issues!

So, what gives?

If all those letters just read as alphabet soup to you, let’s talk a bit about what they are and why they matter in our latest blog post. We’ll also guide you through what you should do to ensure you don’t run into any deliverability issues.

Need fresh social media ideas? Check out some of my favorites:

Endorsing Someone Else: These can be posts sharing an article from someone else’s blog, sharing an event at a local vet’s office, or even just sharing a fun meme or image that isn’t directly self-promotional.

Engagement Focused Posts: These are posts that are all about engaging with your audience directly. Congratulating a student, asking a question your audience can answer, or offering to answer any questions someone posts in the thread.

Promotional Posts: These are the posts you share that mention your blog posts, events that you’ll be attending, and upcoming classes or other services you offer.

For this I want to encourage you to try 'the thing' - whatever 'the thing' might be - that you've been avoiding because you might fail.

Failing is an important part of running a business. The more you fail, the closer you are to the right answer. And as Drew Houston, Co-founder and CEO of Dropbox says, "You only have to be right once."

Hey! If you're new around here, I'm Melissa 😊

Click and Repeat was founded and is run by me!

I’ve spent the last decade in the pet industry, including covering the industry as a journalist, teaching pet dog training classes at a local dog training school, and competing in dog sports with my own dogs.

I’ve also spent over 10 years specifically working in marketing, where I’ve done everything from copywriting and content marketing to leading a marketing team with a 6-figure budget, which means I also understand how to look at the numbers behind your marketing and really make the most of the budget you have.

When we’re talking about testimonials, the truth is we’re actually talking about another T-word: Trust.

The first time a dog owner looks at your marketing materials, they have to quickly decide — is this going to be worth my time and money? Can this person actually help solve my problems?

And one of the most powerful ways to help build that trust and convince them that, yes you CAN help solve their problem and it WILL be worth their time and money is by showing them that you’ve fixed that exact problem for someone just like them.

But… asking for a testimonial can be awkward. I mean, it feels a little aggressive to say, “Didn’t I do an awesome job? Will you write something that says so?”

So we wrote a blog post and shared a template that makes asking for testimonials easy...

Comment TESTIMONIAL to get the link and get those testimonials flowing in!

If your blogging and social media efforts aren’t making tangible differences to your web visitors, client sign-ups, or email subscriptions, maybe it’s time to take a hard look at your content strategy.

In case you’re wondering what we mean by “content,” it’s the articles, blogs, videos, and social media posts you create to market your business.

Before you write a word, it’s a good idea to think about where this content is going to be found. You also need to ask yourself what your marketing goals for each piece are going to be. Once you have those two pieces, you can start your content strategy!

When writing copy for your website, make sure you're talking in terms of benefits, not features.

You want your site visitors (aka potential clients) to know what's in it for them.

An example?

Instead of listing out your skills or years you've worked with dogs, write WHY that's helpful to them.

Think "I have experience with separation anxiety" vs "I've helped more than 30 dog owners combat separation anxiety, that means I can help create a more relaxing experience for your dog while you're away"

02/07/2024

In a recent post, we talked about how most owners use very concrete language when describing their problems while trainers often use trainer jargon — the phrases we use between ourselves.

When you’re writing your marketing, you don’t just describe a client’s problems. Hopefully you’re painting the picture of the outcomes they can expect after working with you, too.

You can use the same process as we laid out before to help your readers see themselves in the transformations you describe.

The best way to make your audience feel heard and understood is by integrating the exact terms they use into your marketing — you want your readers nodding their heads as they read!

Here are some examples to get you started:

What factors influence conversion?

1. Qualified traffic
2. Clear user paths
3. Content that pulls visitors in
4. Content that convinces
5. Clear calls to action

You want to make sure you've checked all these boxes when trying to improve your website conversion rates!

28/06/2024

Your website's design isn't just about looks... it also needs to convert visitors into paying clients.

Conversions can be many different activities, depending on what you want to achieve (signing up for a class, booking a consult, subscribing to your newsletter)

So how do you build a website that converts?

1. We want our site to be easy to navigate: If someone is looking for our location, that should be easy for them to find. If they want to know what we offer, or when we’re available next, again, that should all be fairly easy for them to find.

2. We want to demonstrate our expertise: Whether this is with our credentials, the number of dogs we’ve helped in the last year, or via a testimonial from a happy client, we want to include information throughout our site that shows we know what we’re talking about and we’re good at our job.

3. We want to show we can solve their problem: Think about the problems your customers face, and whether it’s clear on your website that you can help solve those problems!
