Monday morning and I'm back in the workshop and it all starts with this - a lump of wet clay.
One question I was asked a lot over the weekend was "Did you make all this?" It's an understandable question, being as we are surrounded by so much that isn't handmade.
So it's so important to let people know that "Yes! Everything you can see was once only an idea in my head and now it's out in the world, an object that I made with my own hands. Unique and beautiful, cute or fun. A small piece of art bringing a smile and with it a little warmth and light on a gloomy day".
The beauty of handmade - thanks for the smiles!!
Swipe for a bit more of the process and some finished pieces π

So a lovely Facebook comment this week reminded me that the first Manx Scenes pots I made were pure porcelain white. My aim was that when they were lit up with a candle they would come to life depicting a classic scene in a warm flickering glow.
My first Manx Scenes pot design was for Peel. It's a bit of nostalgia for when I lived there and loved to take an evening stroll around the Castle and harbourside.
Here's an example of a white pot of Peel glowing. Swipe to see a finished one in blue and another being made last night.
Let me know which style you like best!
If you'd like to order one send me a message on Inst or FB, or email me at [email protected] π
More work in progress this week - my signature porcelain brooches themed on creatures around the Isle of Man and another Swallows Over the Sea pot.
Busy busy busy!!
Making orders today of my Manx Scenes pots ready for Christmas π.
The first is Port Erin with the dramatic Bradda Head sweeping to the sea, the lovely beach huts and lighthouse on the beach.
The second is of a boat journey around the southernmost point of the island taking in the Burroo or Drinking Dragon, the Sugar Loaf and Chicken Rock Lighthouse.
The seabirds are wheeling in the sky and the sun is bright.
These ones will now dry slowly before they have their first firing. After which they will be decorated with cobalt and glaze fired to stoneware.
Swipe to see a picture of how they'll look once they're finished ππ

It's now two weeks until my next Christmas Fair, but if you can't wait that long or you can't get to a fair here are a few ways to find my work:

In the West, it's the House of Manannan and, from just last month, the gorgeous gift shop, both in Peel.
And lastly, in the South something very special is coming soon - I'll let you know more as soon as I can!!
These are lovely places on the Island where you can enjoy your shopping experience . Here you can buy beautifully designed and crafted pieces by Isle of Man designers and makers. Some of these shops support our local wildlife and our fascinating heritage. All of them support our wonderful way of life. So how about giving them a go for some of your Christmas shopping this year, you are sure to pick up something really special.
Fuchsia season is nearly over for this year in my garden, so to celebrate these beautifully delicate fairy flowers here's a couple of my Fuchsia Pots.
I've only made one of these in the larger size as I wanted to see how well it worked. I have to say it brings me so much joy to look at the finished result! I can't wait to see it glowing and gorgeous with fairy lights in it after dark β¨π
Send me a message if you're interested in these new pots. The standard size is Β£52 and the large is Β£195.
I've been experimenting with glazing the inside of my Manx Scenes pots to see how the cobalt looked on the impressed design when left unglazed but still lovely and smooth.
The pot on the right in the first picture is fully glazed, the one on the left has no glaze over the cobalt.
Gives it a slightly different blue, and a sharper look to the design.
Hmm, not sure which look I like best, let me know what you think!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
I'm absolutely blown away by the love shown for our pottery Christmas Fair!!
