What is it about taking time to pause, or slow down, that can sometimes make us feel uneasy?
I guess it could be the fact that when we take time to slow down, we feel like we are being wasteful—as if that time *should be* spent being “productive” or getting things done on our to-do list.
We could also think about when we’re in a conversation with someone and they take time to pause in between thoughts. There can be a tendency for us to fill that gap in between words or predict what that person is going to say, simply because we are uncomfortable with silence.
So what is it about a pause that is beneficial?
When we take time to pause, we invite in presence, we invite in a reset for our nervous system, and we allow life to touch us. And by touching us, we can really experience a moment of joy, creativity, inspiration, or even peace.
So whether you want to give yourself a reset or be fully touched by life, what would it be like to really embrace the sacred pause and not need to fill every moment of your life with a rush to the next moment?

When I have a negative thought, sometimes I dig deep and ask myself, “How long have you been telling yourself this?”
Most of the thoughts we have, have been around for a while, and on repeat. Even the negative thoughts become comfortably uncomfortable and we don’t even notice them.
But our thoughts shape our mindset and our mindset shapes how we view our life.
It’s challenging to have a happy and peaceful life when our mind is telling us that we don’t deserve it all the time.
I encourage you to get curious. Question your thoughts. And think about how you want to rewrite the story you tel yourself.

A really big side effect of practicing yoga, meditation, or even mindfulness, is that we strengthen the mind’s ability to focus.
I know that we are ALL so good at multi-tasking—we listen to music or podcasts while we walk our pups, we watch tv while scrolling through our phone and reading emails, and we drive and talk on the phone at the same time.
Multi-tasking is an art, but it can lead to constant distraction. Distraction can sometimes be harmless, but if we are in a “state of distraction” all the time, we are never fully living in the present moment.
Practicing yoga, meditation, and mindfulness heightens our awareness so that we really can focus on one moment, one breath, and one thing at a time.
I know that strengthening your focus could make you more productive, but I care more about how deep and full and rich it will make your life.
When you’re focused in the present moment, food tastes better, the sun looks brighter, things smell sweeter, music sounds louder, and you feel everything more deeply. It’s the recipe for a life that is fulfilling, joyous, and energizing.
