Mulvany and Rogers
Internationally acclaimed designers of one-twelfth scale architectural miniatures and dolls' houses,
Thank you for including us in the wonderful exhibition in Venice this last month. Thanks too to everyone who has sent such lovely messages about our piece, ‘Ghosts and for the ‘wish you were here’ selfies!
It was very special for us to exhibit alongside the huge variety of inventive makers and to meet a number them in person during our weekend visit. Well done to all the young guides who worked tirelessly to engage the visitors and enhance their experience. We hope the event was a resounding success for everyone involved.
Define too much garlic…..

A few days swanning about in Venice at .
Thrilled to be included in this wonderfully diverse celebration of makers from around the world, one of the Biennale events throughout the sparkling city.
We met new friends and saw long-time ones and passed like gondolas in the night with others(!)
If you ever needed an excuse to visit Venice (but why would you ?) then this is it. Beautifully presented (art direction by Luca Guadagnino) in the tranquil setting of San Giorgio de Maggiore and with super friendly guides, the exhibition is a fascinating insight to what’s what and who’s who in the world of applied arts and craft.

A little late summer gardening in front of our miniature cottage and yes, we’re really adding weeds not removing them.
A house leaving a house.
Whoops it’s been a while! Hoping it’s not too late to wish you all a Happy New Year! After the jolly festivities and cosy excesses of Christmas it’s time for a little cool, pared back reorganisation for us. Do you see January as a time to clear and refresh or do you like to hold onto the warmth and colour of Christmas for a little longer? For some Candlemas (2nd February) is the new Twelfth night.
Our miniature Georgian sitting room.
The moment before commitment to a decorative scheme; a colour: a finish:
or leave it be?
The possibilities are endless but the good thing is that not much paint will have been wasted if we change our minds.
One room box, three different furniture arrangements. If you don’t have space for a whole miniature house then perhaps one versatile room box and lots of furniture might be the solution?
Here we’ve set up a modern bedroom, a sitting room and a period sitting room in the same room box using the same interior decoration and only changing the furniture. As we don’t have a lot of pieces ourselves the same furniture crops up each photo, but with careful re-arrangement and re-accessorising we’ve given a flavour of what might be achieved with a larger collection.
Now that we’ve saved you space and money why not commission a single room box from us!!
A weekend in the country in our miniature cottage kitchen.
We’re sometimes taken to task for looking ‘too real’ in our photos (whatever that means!) and so swipe left to see slightly pulled away shots giving the scale some context.
Opinion is divided on our including full scale objects in images. We prefer not to, believing that our work can be enjoyed without visual aids. However we do succumb occasionally to pressure from publications - but please, never ask us to work with the desperately unimaginative fifty-pence piece!
A grey, wet Saturday afternoon; a bit chilly but it’s summer so we couldn’t possibly light a fire. And as for putting on the heating, well that’s obviously not happening until October! Why are we bound by such unwritten seasonal rules? It it just us or are you too?
Our miniature Chelsea drawing room.
Summer fruits in our miniature summer palace. Sans Souci is an airy, single storey residence in Potsdam built for Frederick the Great in the 1740s. Our miniature features full scale cherries from our own tree, which is an achievement in itself as we and the birds wait eagerly for the day they ripen and whoever wakes up first gets the pick!
Meanwhile back in the 1980s….
We’ve been having a bit of a nostalgia trip recently, sparked by the return to the studio of a couple of our early houses. When you’ve been around for hundreds of years as have we, looking back can be quite surprising; we’ve actually accomplished quite a lot of work!
We put this 1980s montage together as part of a series of talks we gave earlier this year. The miniatures featured are: one of our earliest doll’s house designs: Chateau Bagatelle: a classic Georgian town house: Britannia House: Uppark: and Malmaison.
To celebrate Coronation Day here in the UK we’re revisiting our miniature Buckingham Palace. Standing at 140cm (55”) high it won’t take long to visit but the gift shop might be rather cramped!

As the sun rises higher each day, afternoon light shafts into our miniature Gustavian library casting dramatic shadows on bare floorboards.
Happy New Year! We hope it will be a positive and peaceful one for everyone. Here’s a brief summary of what we’ve been doing at M&R central in 2022. If you’d like to see more please do join us on Instagram .
