RBBA
A GR based rock n' roll band that is currently retired... but it was fun while it lasted.
Ancient artifact. 😎
Too excited to tune guitar properly, but check out this fun new Christmas toy!
Hey, slobbering, ravenous Rbba weirdos and strange ones. If any of you enjoy the Americana folk stylings of bands like Mumford and sons, the Avett Brothers...etc, check out Adam's band, the Piedmont Temperance Movement on spotify. Name of the album is "Bury Your Hatchet." Anyways, the music is good stuff and here's the link to their spotify page: https://open.spotify.com/album/4utGnrEmO3noyXeriPsiig. In the meantime, here's an instrumental I'm having fun with which is more in the bluesy rocknroll vein of Rbba. Have a fantabulous sunday, everyone!
Landmark of early RBBA formational stomping grounds. 😎
So, after you've all checked out Adam & the Piedmont Temperance Movement's Covid-19 split-screen performance of Tom Petty's "Walls" just below this posting and you've gotten all excited for their forth-coming album, if you feel like staying for one more ditty to listen to, here is Ron's home-demo cover of T.REX's "Jeepster" in celebration of their RRHOF induction this year. This was one of the covers RBBA did in their final years as evidenced by the RBBA performance of it even further down the page here. Anyways, hope you dig it. :-) https://ronkersey.bandcamp.com/track/jeepster-t-rex-cover

Hey, RBBA fan remnants! Good news! See & hear Adam's new band, The Piedmont Temperance Movement do a lush and beautiful cover of Tom Petty's "Walls" (via a virtual real time split screen performance) for the public in anticipation of their forthcoming album. https://www.facebook.com/piedmonttemperancemovement/videos/930004324102120/
Here is a live recording of RBBA covering Marc Bolan & T.REX's "Jeepster." I can't recall the year but this was our first crack at the song. This is when Jay and Ryan were with us in the band lineup. It was a charity event where one of a Grand Rapids bar's regular patrons had terminal cancer and several local bands were coming together to raise money for his family. Adam and Ron shared vocals on this and as they'd just learned the song, they hadn't worked out harmonizing yet so its a bit rough on that front but still a lot of fun. Ron was hoping to eventually stretch out the outro a little longer to get closer to how T.REX sounded live circa 1972 with some fun guitar dynamics, but due to the time crunch of the event, he was only able to fit in a few of them. Anyways, great song and fun times despite the unfortunate reason for the gig. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iy-J3DC267w

This ("A Fairytale's Ending"-working acoustic demo) is a fantastic song that would have likely been on the next RBBA album had it actually come to fruition. This is just Adam and Ron knocking around one of Adam's newest songs on two acoustic guitars in the Grand Rapids house basement around a microphone. Adam presents the listener with beautiful lyrics that warn of the myriad spiritual pitfalls of the world but he adds hope and comfort at the chorus (very Tom Pettyish) where the subject he is singing to is invited to ride out the storm with him, until the end of...the storm... life...the age?...etc.
Ron hadn't written any final lead guitar so most of it is improvised (especially at the solo which kicks in a little late as it's from the top of his head but it eventually delivers some pseudo flamenco-esque bluesiness). The chorus lead parts likely would have stayed due to their strong counter-melody as well as the simple intro riff to each verse, though the end of each verse at this point would have possibly changed as it was just a recycled fretboard climb down previously employed in "Road to Neverland."
This is a great song though, showing off some of Adam's beautiful song-writing and makes one wish to have heard it in a finished form. Enjoy, ye RBBA fanbase remnants! Let this song of riding out the storm give you some hope in these Covid 19 quarantine times. :-)

LYRICS:
Beware the man who'd sell his soul to gain what he's got.
Beware the kiss of a trusted friend.
Beware the killing fields of life (those fields of whited stone).
Beware the words of self love.
CHORUS
So just duck your head and wait out the passing rain,
and hide out in the dark.
And if the storm wont pass,
just hold my hand amidst the coming flood,
I'll hold you till the end.
Realize that man is just a man until his end.
Realize that there are falling stars.
Realize the power of a lie over the mind of man.
Realize that night is drawing near.
CHORUS (1X) SOLO
Embrace the task that's in front of you.
Embrace the loyal bonds of love.
Embrace faith and hope and love
(but the greatest of these is Love)
Embrace the daylight of life while it's here.
CHORUS (1X)
