Obituary
David L. Starner, 67, of Corning, passed away at his home on March 24, 2023.

Born August 13, 1955 in Zanesville, he was a son of Ruth E. (Reed) Starner and the late Francis L. (Fred) Starner of Moxahala. He was a husband, a “Poppy”, a dad, an uncle, a brother, a son, and a friend to so many. Dave was quick to respond to one in need whether it was a generator that needed fuel, a roof that needed repair, a ride to the store, a word of advice, or a shoulder to cry on. For so many the answer was “Call, Dave” because he was always there. For his children he set a standard for how to love and how to treat others and they in return always strived to make him proud. He will live on in the love they share with others, wishing he could have only stayed for "one more."

"We love you, Poppy!"

Dave graduated in 1973 from Miller High School. Considered to be among the greatest athletes in the school's history, he was a 3-sport standout who qualified for the Ohio High School State Track and Field Championship in high hurdles. He was always appreciative of his teammates and the coaching influences of Coaches Gossman and Cook. He was an avid supporter of the Bobcats, Buckeyes, and Browns and member of the Corning Eagles #463. He enjoyed spending time cruising around Burr Oak on his boat and traveling the backroads. Dave retired from his career as Corrections
Officer at the Southeastern Ohio Correctional Institution.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife Brenda (Skinner) Starner; children Amber (Brent) Butcher, Nathan (Dianne) Starner, and Tia Starner; grandchildren Noah Butcher, Olivia Butcher, Gwendolyn Starner, and Magdalena Starner; brothers Roger Hinkle, Mike Bernard, Rick Merckle, and Bruce Starner; special nephew Matthew (Lynnette) Starner and their daughter Remi James Starner; in-laws Sandy (Tom) Fulk and Karen Hill; and his loving nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his brother James (Jim) Starner; father-in-law Charles D. Skinner; and mother-in-law Donna Skinner.

Friends may call 3:00-6:00 PM on Friday, March 31 at the Bethany United Methodist Church in Corning. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 PM with the Coring Eagles and Rev. Fred Monk officiating. Honoring Dave’s wishes, cremation will occur after the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Miller Youth League C\O Amanda Bice 7915 Dutch Ridge Road SE New Straitsville, Oh 43766 or the Corning Eagle Riders Kids Christmas. 139 West Main St, Corning, OH 43730
