Thank you to Greg Mullany for coming in to speak on his OBU and life journey with our Academy student athletes and supporting the OBU Academy kaupapa.

Greg did this by sharing his OBU and international rugby experience and overall life insights.

Key messages that one of our athletes Tamati took away was: “The connections you make through rugby can last a lifetime and those people will be there for you when you need it most (his example of when he got a brain injury.)”

This resonated with most of our OBU Academy athletes who have joined the Academy and the club.

Another athlete Kim Lammers said: “On Tuesday morning, after our gym session, we had the privilege of hearing from Greg Mullany, a prominent member of our extended OBU family. His stories from his international rugby career were inspiring. As a newcomer to the rugby scene, it was eye opening to hear about the diverse places rugby can take you, not just through travel, but also in terms of personal growth, like building lifelong friendships and connections. Greg's experiences emphasised the importance of taking advantage of every opportunity we have, as it could be the difference in achieving those higher honours. Greg talked about going overseas to play rugby for the Cook Islands 15s and 7s teams and playing club in Ireland, Portugal (Benfica) and Australia (Brisbane, Melbourne). Key take aways from Greg’s korero was the life long connections you can make in rugby and also the opportunities that rugby provides, will give you life long memories and experiences”.

It was great to have an OBU Goat share his experience and knowledge and give back to the current and future players of the game!

Congratulations to Mitch Mcleod on signing with the Wellington Lions 🦁 for the 2024 Bunnings Warehouse New Zealand NPC Championship.

Mitch is an Alumni of the OBU Academy (2021 and 2022) and currently playing with the Old Boys University Rugby Club Premier team and also at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington studying his Masters of architecture.
