The Nuer Calender ( Thoknath ) has 4 seasons and 12 months just like many countries.

Here, you will read: What the Names of Each Month Mean:

̱p-thar-pɛt (Tio̱p-in-tɔt) is the first month in the Nuer calendar. In this month, like "Tio̱p-in-di̱i̱t," the weather remains unsettled, shifting towards dry conditions in February (Pɛt). Its name, "Tio̱p-thar-pɛt," means 'messy behind February' (Pɛt) due to its unpredictable weather and position as the second month of the year.

, the second month of the Nuer calendar, gets its name from the practice of setting grass on fire to protect cattle from predators who use the grass for cover when attacking cattle. It also reflects the hot weather of this month.

̱ɔ̱ŋ is the third month of the year in the Nuer calendar. The weather begins to change, with clouds indicating the arrival of spring. Sometimes, a cold breeze accompanies the flurry weather, earning the month its name, "Duɔ̱ɔ̱ŋ."

is the fourth month in the Nuer calendar, and it's known for the nightly cries of foxes. According to ancient Nuer beliefs, foxes give birth in this month, but their cries are seen as a bad omen, signaling forthcoming calamities. People often fall ill and quarrel, leading to death during this month, justifying the name "Guak."

is the fifth month, characterized by heavy rainfall and cloudy weather, hence its name.

is the sixth month in the Nuer calendar. In this month, rain falls intermittently, earning it the name "Kuornyoot."

-yiëtni̱ is the seventh month in the Nuer calendar, marking the time when crops ripen. People harvest the part between the grain and stalk, called "yiet." "Pay" refers to the month when people see the yiet being threshed after the grain is collected.

̱o̱r, the eighth month in the Nuer calendar, comes after the crop has ripened. People enjoy chewing and extracting juice from canes before discarding the waste. When rain falls, the cane waste floats away, hence the name "Tho̱o̱r," meaning 'f
