It’s been a busy 4 years since I’ve last posted anything on this page. Two kids and a move later, my passion has shifted slightly and I wanted to share my love of decorating and creating a cozy space for my family to enjoy. The story behind The Barn on Boone -

Ever since I can remember, people always referred to my grandma’s house as “the barn on Boone Avenue”. It’s no wonder because of its uncanny resemblance to an old fashioned countryside barn. I came to love that house and all the treasures my grandma had collected inside it. Though I couldn’t put my finger on it when I was younger, stepping into her house always felt like a warm hug, begging you to take a seat and stay awhile. My grandma’s decor style always paid tribute to our Swedish heritage with many family heirlooms and vintage pieces she picked up on her many trips to Sweden. She was gifted with a thread and needle making quilts, embroidery, and various other projects that required a steady hand and keen eye for detail. Her handmade table runners saw the Thanksgiving dinner that gathered our family together, the Saint Lucia doll she made watched over the many joyous holiday celebrations year after year, and her Fiestaware teacups hosted tea parties for two when I was a little girl. As I grew older, I found that I was more like my grandma than I knew, taking up in her creative footsteps. She was there every step of the way as I found a love of drawing, scrapbooking, crafting, and then eventually starting my own small business going to craft sales and selling online with my handcrafted items. Life got busy, a marriage, two kids, two dogs and work took precedent over my personal hobbies. During this time, my grandma started showing signs of Alzheimer’s and quickly declined over several years. Alzheimer’s is a cruel disease that leaves just a shell of the person you once knew. Since her passing, I think of her often and more times than not, I think of her in her cozy little barn on Boone that she loved so much. I think about how that place was a sanctuary to her and to all who passed through its doors. The decorations , though just a backdrop, are cemented into my memories of lovely times spent with my family there. Though I know The barn on Boone exists now in my memory, I strive to create a beautiful, inviting home that will give my family and all who enter the same feeling I felt so many times in my grandmas house. That feeling of a warm hug and conviction of knowing that, as told by Laura Ingalls Wilder....... “HOME is the nicest word there is.”
