"The majority of the songs on Mary Bridget Davies' debut blues release Wanna Feel Somethin’, are originals written by herself combined with arrangement and lyrical skills of her whole band. Davies provides both music lovers and the industry with well written, meaningful and soulfully executed songs. All of Davies originals on this album are familiar, yet new, beginning with 'Your Kinda Love' (Gary

Roberts bass/vocals). The familiar sounds of Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon are punched out of the gate by the new and dynamic voice of Davies, who leaves one searching for who she sounds like. Ultimately, one comes to the conclusion that she has many influences, but has a signature voice all her own. The next track, a traditional sounding blues dance number 'Won’t pay You Mind', was written by the regular band members (Dave Hayes guitar/vocals, Gary Roberts bass/vocals, Joe Voye drums/vocals and Mary Davies vocals). These four musicians are the nucleus writing and performing crew of the Mary Bridget Davies Group providing this release with four out of ten songs credited. Gary Roberts has a total of six writing credits on this album and Davies a total of five. In the next original track titled 'Same Ol’ Blues,' Davies invokes the spirit of Joplin while sustaining her identity and keeping the mood and groove silky and smooth. We get to explore the rhythm and soul side of Davies band with 'Real Thing,' which is a fine transition from the true 70’s sound and the Neo-Soul movement that is so in vogue this decade. The haunting dirty low-end slide accompanied by Davies raising up the spirit in 'Getting’ Stronger ' and 'Trick The Devil' are fine fusions of Delta Blues and tasty Gospel-witnessing vocal technique. The title track, 'Wanna Feel Somethin’,' shows us the band's funky side and will at least leave a creak in your neck if not break it from bouncing back and forth. The cover songs that were selected on the album are clever, well thought-out and in some cases down-right dangerous choices. By the grace above, they all come off well. The jazzy interpretation and rearrangement of 'Wonderwall' (N. Gallager) is ambitious and well executed. 'Take it to The Limit' (D. Meisner, G. Frey) and 'Thunder and Lightnin’' (C. Coltrane) are two other great covers that this highly proficient group of musicians conquered where many others have failed. Davies band is a noteworthy example of the positive evolution of the traditional blues genre in a 21st Century world. The majority of their songs are radio friendly. Most of them have average play times, under four minutes, and there are interesting selections of classic covers that have been rearranged and recorded in a pleasing manner that will entertain all who simply want to hear good music." The power that fueled the KC-based vocalist’s portrayal of “Pearl” is on display here in the service of a solid, blues-bound set penned primarily by Bridget and band members. sounds most at home at full-throttle but shows off a nice range of emotion, as well as her ballad chops, covering Oasis’ “Wonderwall”. Kudos for the production, which gives the band a nice “live” sound in the studio. "

When listening to this album all of your senses will be stimulated and consume you with this outstanding offering. The songs will feel familiar but the majority have been written by Davies and fellow band members. This album will be modern Blues at it's absolute best but also funky, plenty of tight brass for good measure. Throughout this entire album Davies's voice is commanding and never once falters, the band is in perfect sync with here and it all melds together to form Blues at it's best. Another thing I love about Cleveland and our vibe/outlook on life is to work hard, love fiercely and bring joy to others through art and philanthropy of many sorts. P***y Malley flew home from the Peace Corps in Jamaica and his first order of business was to come to my MATINEE of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Not to mention, Eric Sosinski sent me a message months earlier when casting was announced about how much he and his Mom loved this show and that he would be there and ACTUALLY came! These are some of the heaviest hitters coming to see lil' old me. 😎

There is a TON of talented, lovely and supportive people in the CLE and I'm proud to be part of the community. ❤️🎶🎭💪🔥

Sunday night wrap of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I am SO PROUD to be home and making art with the next wave of Cleveland's best and brightest artists. So many friends and actual educators of mine have come to the show and I was more excited to see them and hear their reactions. I have lived on the world's stage but I wouldn't have made it there without their guidance and support. Being able to be HOME and perform is beyond the dream. When people say "don't forget where you came from?" NEVER. I am a proud, loud child who was bred out of the Cleveland theater AND live music scene. Today was the day back in 1970 that Janis Lyn Joplin returned to the ether to join the other souls that were more bright, more loud and far more Technicolor than our little planet could contain.

Working on what would become her best selling album, Pearl, Janis and the some band mates stopped for drinks at Barney's Beanery a few hours before midnight October 3rd for a little post studio session revelry. As the guys peeled off one by one, as they so often did, Janis found herself alone and headed back to The Landmark Hotel where she had been staying while in town to record. It always struck me so sad that someone who was shaping the face of rock and roll and was revered by so many was often alone at the end of the night. For whatever reason her "friends" didn't make the trip to see her that night and she was once again alone.

I was lucky enough to sing for Big Brother & the Holding Co. on many tours and become friends with the guys. Peter Albin, Dave Getz, Sam Andrew and I would wind up in deep talks about all things music, language, society and Janis. I've included an excerpt form one of Sam's pieces on her. It shows you just a glimpse of what it was like to be her then and truly what it has been like to be "me" as a musician over the years. I've never met her but I can see the sparkle in her eye as she delivered that "Glamorous, isnt it?" line in her Mae West inspired "Pearl" lilt.

I don't believe her death was intentional. Apparently she was given a hot dose and many others died that weekend. She just happened to be the only rockstar in the bunch. She was a baby. 27 years old with that much power, influence and responsibility LONG before the days where 7 year old children become monetized youtube sensations overnight.

She was winging it and WHAT A RIDE. Today is always a somber day for me personally because it's the "what if" that will drive you crazy. What if she didn't die? Where would she go musically next? Would she be the "Mama" of the entire Southern Rock music movement? Would she have collaborated with Plant? Would she return to Texas and take over at Threadgill's or be the matriarch of Antone's and settle for a quieter life in her older years? Would she still be touring? Would she have had kids?

Would she have liked me if I ever got to meet her?

Heavy is the head that wears the crown and I will always bow to my Queen of Rock and Roll, Janis Lyn Joplin.
