" I got to see my country with my own eyes today" - Jean Luc, 10
We took our P4-P6 students to Akagera National Park today. This was the first time any of them had been outside their own little community.
The first time seeing the green hills, flooded rice fields, deep valley... with their own eyes.
The life of a street kid is all about survival, staying where you can walk + near what's familiar.
We decided today to make field trips a regular day to look forward to at Hope Village. As one of our older students said "when you see something new, you want to see more!"

Ferdinand is an original Imana Kid, a genocide survivor and an overcomer.
As a former street kid, he knows what it feels like to be hungry and alone.
But his circumstances were not his story.
In a few months, Ferdinand will be graduating from a mechanic school. He loves his work, his classmates, cricket and helping serve our youngest students.
Ferdinand's sponsor has poured love into him for 5 years; not only through sponsoring his school fees, but in letter writing, emailing, texting and face-to-face, heart-to-heart conversation.
This is how we make love a verb.

BEFORE + AFTER
In June of 2013, a small group of volunteers delivered some beans + rice to an unregistered orphanage in the hills of Rwanda.
What happened next is a story written only by God.
This page was created to help promote Art within Imana Kids Orphan Care Ministry. Art is a way to give a voice to those who often feel unheard, it promotes healing and self awareness. This page is intended to give a voice to IMANA (GOD's ) KIDS as they heal from the Trauma. In an area effected by the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
We do travel differently.
Our teams are committed to providing a service that we cannot hire individuals in the communities that we partner with to do.
This means that we aren't digging wells (we aren't qualified!), painting walls or roofing homes. We aren't evangelizing.
We are listening.
We are holding hands. We are playing.
Sometimes we provide day camp or life skills workshops or mock job interviews.
Sometimes we train our staff or give nutrition classes or host girls night.
And sometimes we just BE.
There are three teams in 2023: April, July and December.
We've got a spot for you.
