Mama Mickey is the poster child for how most pitbulls in Walker County are treated. She has been overbred and is covered in mange. She looks 10 times better after a couple of weeks in her foster home. Her 9 babies are doing well in another foster while she is starting to heal. Mama looked to be developing mastistis, so the pups had to be weaned.
Mama Mickey is the sweetest girl who craves human affection and does wonderfully with other dogs. She is unfortunately heartworm positive, so we need to raise the money for her treatment. If you can donate, donations can be made here: https://linktr.ee/ruffrescue?fbclid=IwAR2rV3R8tSCzibeDuo4dV0n5wdNf2nRISwoSKSPm5tOYjMz8_0K_mooMxnw
Thank you all
Since April, we have pulled 275 animals from both the Walker County and Jasper City Shelter. When we tell you to take strays there, we are following through on our part. It is making this a more seamless process for both us and the shelter. Just because we are not acting as animal control like we have had to do in the past out of necessity does not mean that we are not being proactive in saving dogs and cats in Walker County. If anything, this partnership is allowing us to save so many more lives.
Thank you to our supporters who trust us in our decisions, and thank you to our fosters and rescue partners who help keep us moving!
Look at our sweet Glory from the county shelter!

Happy Tails for Garnet, Now Tenny
We looked at Garnet early May, having thought for months about a third dog.
She is a shelter dog like hundreds of others, just as our other two are.
When we brought her home, she settled in quickly, loves the water, muddy smelly or clean so towels have to go everywhere.
There are times we can't find her in the house, she's usually with the toys and tennis balls.
If Tenny could talk she'd tell you Shelby taught her to bounce like Tigger when there's frogs around, Lexi taught her to sleep on her back and she learned on her own to bark when she wants outside... no alarm clock needed, as she's a 5 am everyone up.
She's part of our family and awesome, reminding us how to laugh, reminding Shelby and Lexi they are still pups and can play rough and tumble.
Shelter animals are awesome and too many, they are lifetime family members and best friends.
Often you go to a shelter to choose one, actually they usually choose you, with their looks, love and personalities.
Tenny and us thank you for bringing us together and all the hard work you do.
Congrats to Ruby! She is now officially adopted in Birmingham ❤️ thank you to the Lindhart family!

RUFF needs supplies, volunteers to complete new rescue facility Animal rescue nonprofit Rescuers United for Furbabies (RUFF) needs help to raise money and collect supplies to complete the construction of its rescue facility set to open in August.
Here is an update as of today 6/24/24.
RUFF has had a very busy last few days. We had 3 different transports this week. We also have made great progress in our facility. We actually have walls standing!
We are so close to making this dream a reality. It takes a whole village of people to accomplish what we do. Please "like" us and share our stuff so we can reach more people.
Couple of adoptions coming up shortly too. Stay tuned!
Happy tails, Marcy!
Huge shout out to our friends at Nothing But Love Canine Foundation for filling our van with supplies this past weekend. Bruce and Val go above and beyond to help us with our Walker County pups. So thankful for this partnership but also very thankful for this friendship.

This kitten says life is lip licking good with RUFF rescue (foster Jennifer Light Fivas)
Pictures of Shelter pups transitioned to foster care. You can see what a difference it makes for everyone and every dog involved. If you have ever wanted to make a difference in an animals life we are the rescue for you! Bring happiness into your home and into a Furbabies life.
This is why we are always asking for more fosters. All dogs, puppies especially, are limited to what they can do in the shelter. Puppies from different litters must be kept separate and can not touch any areas contaminated with parvo. This is why you often see puppies in small metal crates. They can’t get out to play. And they cannot play with others until they are fully vaccinated to life threatening disease’s. This crew are now all vaccinated. For the first time in their lives they were able to play outside and with other puppies. Overstimulation and depression is a real thing for all shelter animals.
If we had more fosters we could help pull animals quicker from the shelters. This helps the shelter workers tremendously. For example, each puppy pictured below was housed separate. This means you cannot cross contaminate and must pay extra attention when changing out puppy pads and food along with changes of gloves and clothes if you get dirty.
As a foster, you can chose what animal suits you. And even if you can only foster one … that is one animal changed forever along with the adopting family.
We are all out at the land working! We need more hands if anyone wants to join us. We promise you laughs and good commentary😂❤️
Update on the five puppies who busted out from the shelter ❤️
They have been at the shelter for a few months. They all were separate puppies who have never had the chance to play with other puppies or be outside. Now-since they are fully vaccinated- they get to play with eachother and they are alllll smiles !! PS they LOVE the pool
“We busted out of the shelter today. Foster mom says she has a pool for us. We dont know what that is but it sounds pretty cool!”
Stay tuned for updates ❤️
Anna aka Freckles says Happy Friday!

❤️We need volunteers to help us work on our building/land Saturday. If you know anything about construction we NEED you. (Screwing metal up in kennel areas Replacing floors in barn Building walls) We need men volunteers too. The majority of RUFF volunteers are female and there’s a lot we cannot do by ourselves. Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering and we will get you added to our volunteer thread!❤️
We could not be a rescue without our volunteers because rescue definitely takes a village! It takes multiple people and moving parts. We want to introduce one of our amazing volunteers to our followers.
Why I foster and drive transport for RUFF Rescue- Heather Brakefield
“Hello all,
I will start by introducing myself my name is Heather. I began driving transport for RUFF in June 2022. I had been introduced to RUFF by visiting the county shelter at the end of 2021. I began by following the RUFF page and one day I saw a post needing a driver to go to Wytheville, Virginia. It was for an OPH trip that would be dropping off on Friday morning. So I messaged back that I could drive that trip. I then got bit by the bug that makes us all a little bit crazy lol. I found something that I was passionate about. For about 6 months I drove that trip and then as things were beginning to change with my full time job I was able to start driving the longer trips and began with the Wisconsin/ Minnesota trips. Then in January of 2024 I saw a dog that was posted in one of the Messenger groups and I stepped up to foster my Halie girl. I was already hooked with just the driving part let alone being a foster. I have fostered both dogs and cats. I have been very lucky that most of my fosters were very short term stays, but that just means the faster they came and went was the sooner they could find their forever homes. Now don’t get me wrong there are difficult parts to. With driving transport and doing it alone when I get tired I have no backup to give me that break, but I know each of those babies needs me to get them there and safely. Fostering it can become hard when you become attached to having them there. So I will say this that it’s ok to get upset when you have to let go when you have brought them into your home and nurtured them back to health. I also wish every foster could experience going on transport and seeing things in closing their RUFF chapter but beginning a new one that will lead them to a family of their own. Thank you for taking the time to read my rambling.”
We are always needing more fosters. Please let us know if you are interested.
Ahhh the joys of being in a RUFF foster home ❤️❤️
Come join us July 10th at Pie Factory in Jasper for a night of Bingo and raffles ❤️
