Zuka is a play on the Swahili word pambazuka which roughly translates to “arisen”. Zuka exists to convene and engage the global society around the leading ideas driving progress in Africa, with the aim of proliferating these ideas and building the connections necessary to realize them. We wish to wield the collective genius of the global society to recapture Africa’s narrative, take control of her
destiny, and defend her global reputation with the full might of our creativity, innovation and resourcefulness. Inspired by Warren Bennis’ turn of phrase, our hope and goal is to spark new intellectual capital by enabling the sharing of ideas positioned at an angle to conventional thought. We seek to proliferate ideas that disturb the present in the service of a better future. We invite you to share your ideas—free of any expectation to defend them, and challenge you to entertain those of others—free of any obligation to accept them.
