We welcomed 2 new foster pups to the DCAA family last week. Introducing Maverick and Goose.
Maverick (white) is 3 months old and possibly an American Bulldog mix - we expect him to be a larger dog when grown.
Goose (tan) is 4 months old and some kind of bully breed mix - he will probably be medium/large when he’s grown.
Both boys are in a home with kids of all ages, other dogs, and a cat (possibly the most patient and tolerant cat on earth). The boys are obviously still working on manners and house training. Although not available for adoption yet, you can go ahead and complete an adoption application on our website if you are interested in either of these cuties.
They will not be adopted out together! (Google littermate syndrome if you need to know why.)

We have some sad news to share. Kabi had his leg amputation yesterday. He woke up from anesthesia fine, ate his supper, and even went out to potty. But unfortunately, this sweet boy passed away this morning from unknown causes. It’s possible that he had a blood clot from the surgery or he could have had an underlying condition that no one knew about, but we just dont know what happened. Kabi is running and playing again like all puppies should. Run free sweet boy. 🐾🌈🐾

The vet will be doing Kabi’s leg amputation this weekend. Unfortunately, we do not yet have an approved foster home lined up for him once he is discharged. Tripods are amazing pets and a missing limb rarely ever slows them down or keeps them from doing anything a 4-legged dog would do. Kabi will need some crate rest when he’s discharged but once his stitches are removed, he will free to be a sweet, silly puppy. He’s only 5 months old and is going to be a stunning white shepherd mix when he grows up.
If you can foster Kabi, please go to www.dcanimalalliance.org, click on “fostering” and submit an application. All medical expenses will be covered and we can provide you with a crate, food, and any other necessities Kabi may need.

We received a call this morning for a dog that had been hit by a car. It was taken to a local vet where they found a it’s leg was broken right at the growth plate. This sweet shepherd mix’s name is Kabi and he’s only 5 months old. Kabi will need surgery to amputate his leg. We need a foster home lined up for him for once he’s ready to be discharged from the hospital.
If you are interested in fostering Kabi, please go to www.dcanimalalliance.org and complete our foster application.

If you can donate towards Kabi’s medical care, you can do so via PayPal to [email protected], Venmo to -AnimalAlliance, mail to PO Box 183 Thomasville NC 27361, or through the FB link below. 🐾

Dizzie has found her forever family! She has kids to play with, 3 new fur-brothers, a big fenced in yard where she can run, and even a pool to swim in! Her new family says that she joined into their pack easily and has been having so much fun. Congratulations to Dizzie and her family! 🐾💕🐾

ADOPTION PENDING!

“And they call it… puppy love!” 💕💕💕
Meet Billie! She’s 8 weeks old, 12 pounds, and super-duper cute! Billie will be a large breed dog - what exactly, we don’t know but we believe she may have some Great Dane mixed in her. She was brought into the local shelter as a stray and we were lucky enough to have a foster available to take her in.
If you feel like you could be Billie’s forever person, please go to our website (www.dcanimalalliance.org) and complete an adoption application.
Her adoption fee is $125 and will include her vaccines, microchip, and spay once she is old enough.

With the help of your pet food donations, we have been able to provide food to 79 families since January of this year to help keep 452 animals fed and out of the local shelter.
We can always use more pet food to help families and pets in need. If you want to donate dog/cat food, here is a link to our Chewy wishlist: https://www.chewy.com/g/davidson-county-animal-alliance_b89980772
You can also drop food off at Tractor Supply in Lexington and we will pick up from there. Just be sure to let them know it’s for DCAA.

ADOPTED!

Dizzie is 7 months old and weighs only 4.5 pounds. We think she may be a Carin terrier or maybe a yorkie mix. We really don’t know but she’s 100% adorable!
Dizzie has been spayed and she is ready to find her forever home. She is good with cats and small dogs. Large dogs absolutely terrify her.
Dizzie’s home will require a securely fenced yard as she absolutely lives to run but unfortunately she also has some hearing impairment so she cant hear you call her. She is an active little girl that will need a family committed to helping her express her energy in a healthy way. Dizzie sleeps all night in her crate and is doing well on house training.

** Puppies require patience and training. Dizzie typically sleeps through the night but sometimes not, sometimes she chews things she shouldn't, sometimes she has accidents on the floor. Dizzie needs a home that give her the training and attention she needs to be sure she grows into an amazing dog.**

Dizzie’s adoption fee of $125 includes her spay, vaccines, and microchip. If you are interested in meeting or adopting Dizzie, submit an application on our website (www.dcanimalalliance.o

When you get a text message from Animal Control that just says “Helppppp!”, you know your day is about to get interesting. This is Dory and we really wish she could tell us what happened to her. We had animal control take her straight to the vet where her wounds were cleaned, she was started on antibiotics, and the vet will sedate her and take a closer look tomorrow to see if he can close the wound.
Dory is about 8 months old and gets along with other dogs. If you would be interested in adopting or fostering her, please go to our website, www.dcanimalaiance.org, and complete the appropriate application.

If you can donate towards Dory’s medical care, you can do so via PayPal to [email protected], Venmo to -AnimalAlliance, mail to PO Box 183 Thomasville NC 27361, or through the FB link below.

Stone is 4 month old Anatolian Shepherd mix.
Billie is 5 week old puppy that was found as a stray.
Thank you to their amazing foster homes!!!

Stone’s foster family plans on adopting him once he is neutered but the rest will all be looking for forever homes once they get spayed/neutered. You can go ahead and complete an application on our website (www.dcanimalalliance.org) if you are interested.

Losing Trixie last week hit us hard. We were willing to fight along side her as long as her body would allow. We want to thank each and every one of you for your kind words and your donations.
Since losing Trixie, I’ve been asked, “how do you keep doing what you do?” Quite simply, it’s stories like Liberty. Liberty was found beside of a dumpster at the local Walmart. She was emaciated, full of parasites, and covered in her own urine. Justice also had some mannerisms that made the vet feel like she was probably an in**ed puppy. As she got bigger, we also learned that she suffered from some vision impairment. Fast forward to today and Liberty is living her absolute best life with her adoptive mom. She loves other dogs, going for boat rides, and living the posh, pampered life that she deserves.
Stories like Liberty’s is what helps rescuers keep going to the next case. Our goal is to give these animals a new life so good that they can forget all that happened to to them previously. We can’t do that without your help. We rely on you to foster, donate, and volunteer to help us give animals like Liberty a second chance.

After yesterday, we thought you all could use a happy update on one of the cruelty cases we’ve helped with recently. Remember our little hero dog, Nugget??!! She is now known as Pippa and she is doing fantastic. She is happy, healthy, and is just as cute as a button. Pippa is 12 weeks old now, loves the other dogs in the home, she’s still working on the potty training, and loves to play ball. She has her foster parents wrapped around her little paw and there’s no doubt that she has already found her forever home.

Trixie update:
This is not the post I wanted to be typing this evening. In fact, it’s not the post I ever want to type.
We received a call from the vet late this afternoon telling us that Trixie was crashing; her respiratory rate was erratic, blood pressure was low, and she was struggling. Our secretary, Paula, rushed to be with her and hold her as we helped her cross the rainbow bridge. We helped her fight until she let us and her care team at Hulin Veterinary Hospital know that she was tired of fighting; that she was ready to feel peace.
Despite all of our efforts, the neglect that she had suffered was just too much for her body to recover from. Trixie may not have felt love in her life. She may have never known what being part of a family was like. But in her final days, we loved her. We did everything for her that we would have done for our own pets. Trixie will always be a part of our DCAA family.
Serenity Pet Cremations & Burial will be taking care of her cremation and when her abusers go to court, Trixie will be there. Her death is on their hands.
Trixie's story serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion and the devastating consequences of animal abuse and neglect. Though she may be gone, her spirit will live on through DCAA’s continued efforts to protect and care for animals in need.
Rest easy, sweet girl. We are sorry that humans failed you. You will not be forgotten. 💔😔🌈🐾

Shuffles came into the shelter yesterday with injuries to her neck and tail. Both wounds were infected and had maggots in them. After she was cleaned up, we took her to one of our vets where her tail will need to be amputated.
Shuffles gets her name because of her feet. You see, Shuffles has extra toes on her feet making her an extra special polydactyl kitty!
Shuffles will need a foster home once she is discharged from the vet. Please go to www.dcanimalliance.org, click on “fostering” and complete a foster application if you can help us with this sweet little girl.

Donations can be sent to us via PayPal to [email protected], Venmo to -AnimalAlliance, mail to PO Box 183 Thomasville NC 27361, or through the FB link below.

Trixie Update:
Our girl is still fighting. Her hematocrit was up to 39% after her last blood transfusion. She continues to eat and looks forward to her small meals. Trixie is getting vitamins and iron supplements to help her body rebuild her blood supply. The vet will repeat her bloodwork again today but hopefully her body is responding well.

Our friends at Juliet’s House pulled Benjamin Button from the shelter yesterday and will be getting him the vet care needed. Follow their FB page at Juliet's House Animal Rescue for updates and if you are interested in adopting.

Look who’s feeling better! Benson was discharged from the vet this morning and is being transferred to Ruff Love Rescue. They have an available foster lined up that has the resources to keep Benson isolated and quarantined from other dogs for another 2 weeks as the parvovirus is shedded from his system.
Thank you to everyone that donated to this sweet boys medical care. He would not have survived without the treatment that your donations provided.

Trixie Update:
Our sweet girl is at CVS getting her second blood transfusion. Trixie is staying overnight for observation just in case she has a reaction to the blood. Apparently, the risk of a dog having a reaction to donor blood increases with each transfusion. Trixie is still eating, and will wiggle her tail when you talk to her. Please continue to keep those prayers, well wishes, and good vibes coming for her as she’s far from being out of the woods.

Once she is strong enough to be discharged, we will need a foster home lined up for her. She will need to gain weight and build up her strength before she could be treated for heartworms. We can provide a crate, food, or any other necessary supplies if needed. Please go to www.dcanimalalliance.org, click on “fostering”, and submit a foster application if you can welcome our sweet Trixie into your home.

Donations can be sent to us via PayPal to [email protected], Venmo to -AnimalAlliance, mail to PO Box 183 Thomasville NC 27361, or through the FB link below.

We need a foster home for Benjamin Button. Yes, he got his name because of the large “button” on his belly. Benjamin needs this umbilical hernia repaired before it causes damage to his intestines. He is a sweet boy that loves to play but without a foster home, he won’t get a chance at a happy life.
If you can foster Benjamin Button, please go to www.dcanimalalliance.org, click on “fostering”, and submit a foster application.

Trixie update:
I was waiting to post until we knew a little more and had a plan in place. The vet reports that Trixie does have small periods every now and then where she feels like getting up and walking around but she is still very weak and tires rather quickly. She has gained 5 pounds since she started eating small meals throughout the day.
But here’s the bad news… Trixies hermaticrit level only increased 4% after her blood transfusion the other day and now it’s back down to where it was before. Her body is extremely anemic and simply isn’t regenerating red blood cells. Trixie is being transferred back to Carolina Vet Specialists in the morning for a second blood transfusion with a matching blood donor (the vets hope that her receiving cross matched blood will help give her body the boost it needs).
Unfortunately, there are no local vets that can do cross matching on blood types so CVS is the only option for this. We were given an estimate today of $1800 just for this second transfusion and she still may need another one.

Donations can be sent to us via PayPal to [email protected], Venmo to -AnimalAlliance, mail to PO Box 183 Thomasville NC 27361, or through the FB link below.

Look who’s feeling better! Benson is eating and drinking well on his own, his bowel movements are more regular, and he’s happy to wiggle his butt for pets now! Benson is a parvo survivor and is ready to be discharged from the hospital!!! WooHoo!! 🐾

17/07/2024

Remember Ryder and Kenzo!!?? It’s hard to believe that these are the same 2 kittens that were clinging to life just a couple weeks ago. They were lifeless when they arrived at our vet but after a few days of ICU care, they started to bounce back. We weren’t able to find a foster home for the boys but our friends at Baby Leo Animal Rescue took Ryder and Kenzo in once they were strong enough to be discharged from the hospital.
If you are interested in adopting this adorable duo, please reach out to Baby Leo Animal Rescue.
Thank you so much to everyone that donated to help Ryder and Kenzo! 🐾

We need kitten fosters!
All vet care and supplies are provided!
Go to www.dcanimalalliance.org, click on “fostering”, and complete the application if you can help.
Please note, your current pets need to be up to date on all vaccines for their own protection.

Benson Update:
Our parvo fighter, Benson, continues to be hospitalized. The vet gave him a dose of the new drug for Parvo a couple days ago. It’s a Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody which is said to ease symptoms. Today has been the first day in a week that he has ate a few bites of food so hopefully Benson is through the worst of this horrible virus.

Many people think that Parvo is something that only puppies get. It is not. Benson is 2 years old. He had probably never been vaccinated and so he had no immunity to a germ that could easily kill him.
This is just one reason why DCAA expects all of the current pets in the home be up to date on vaccines if you are wanting to foster or adopt. Honestly, it’s for your own pets health and safety since we have no idea what animals have been exposed to in the shelter or prior to coming into the shelter.

Benson isn’t out of the woods yet so please keep those prayers and well wishes coming his way.

Donations can be sent to us via PayPal to [email protected], Venmo to -AnimalAlliance, mail to PO Box 183 Thomasville NC 27361, or through the FB link below.
