Once a week I make homemade Almond Butter from scratch! It sounds difficult but is so easy. I roast my almonds: 3-4 cups of raw almonds, roast for 12 minutes at 350 degrees. And when they are completely cooled I blend them in my Vitamix 1-2 minutes. Amazing! It you don’t have a Vitamix go get one. I use it every day. Now at about 3pm every day I have my healthy snack of celery and almond butter. I doesn’t get any easier than this!
Share your healthy snack ideas with me.

Cheers!

Essential oils like lavender essential oil can be quite calming to both children and adults. Orange essential oil can be uplifting and energizing. Make sure you are diffusing only pure essential oil therapeutic grade. And be picky about where the product is made. If you have animals you will want to confirm which essential oils are safe for them Before using them in your home.

If you want to apply essential oil to your skin use it cut with a healthy and safe oil like coconut oil or almond oil. (Again check where the oil comes from)

Don’t forget to play music. Music can be calming and also good for our brains. It can increase positivity and creativity.

And lastly exercise even just stretching can decrease stress and anxiety. There are many free channels on YouTube that have wonderful online exercise gurus and trainers. I love Boho Beautiful and Rebecca Louise to name a few.

Let’s use this time to reconnect with each other and with ourselves.

Much Happiness and Good Health

Cheers!

The Reason Vision Boards Work and How to Make One 30/01/2016

Happy New Year! Every year I make a list of New Year's Resolutions because if I don't a whole year can go by and I will look back to see that I really didn't accomplish anything!!
Last year Jess and I made a combined Family NYR list that had 21 resolutions on it and we accomplished 15 of them! We feel really good that we completed more than half of them. In fact, just the mere act of writing down resolutions, goals or even a To-Do List triggers a part of our brain that will require us to strive towards that goal. So it's never too late to create a New Year's Resolution List or a Vision Board that you look at every day. Here's to a Happy, Healthy and Empowered Year. Cheers! Tamie and Jess

To avoid getting sick in a household of 6, I take an Essential Oil blend called onGuard at the first sign of a sore throat. One drop down the center of my tongue keeps me heathy year around.
The taste is very strong so I diffuse it for the kids. This way I know they are absorbing these all natural therapeutic grade essential oils effortlessly. I love the Christmas-y scent!! Cheers! Tamie and Jesse

Summertime with the kids is really so much fun when everyone is getting along and feeling good. One of our kids occasionally suffers from Migraine headaches. It took me a long time to recognize the symptoms: "My tummy hurts. My eyes hurt."
Sure enough she was diagnosed with Migraines!
Here are some migraine symptoms that will present themselves in children and not necessarily adults:
Their head "hurts".
Vomiting, especially projectile vomiting.
Stomach pain.
Triggers can be inconsistent daily meals (Most people prone to migraines are very sensitive to the food they eat and the frequency of their meals), stress at home or school and too much or too little sleep.
Ways to avoid these triggers are fairly easy. Keep it consistent! Meals: 3 squares a day plus morning and afternoon healthy snacks.
Sleep: Have a regular bedtime and make sure they are getting at least 8 hours a night.
Help your child learn to relax by using relaxation techniques. (Apps are now conveniently available to us. And they work for me).

When my daughter has a headache coming on she holds her head and I immediately give her Children's dye-free Advil or Motrin and a glass of water.
I also use Peppermint Essential Oil on her pressure points and on her head near the scalp (peppermint oil is so intense I have her close her eyes when I apply it to prevent eye-tearing). Cheers! Tam and Jess

#10 Most Essential for Summer Survival
Sleepytime Spray:
Do your kids also quickly adopt the European Way of wanting to stay up until midnight as soon as summer comes around? We find it quite challenging to get them into bed at a decent hour. But... fear not friends! We have a secret concoction that works for all 4 of our kids:
2 oz. glass spray bottle
1 1/2 Tablespoons of vodka
15 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
Fill the rest of the bottle up with distilled water

Spray on their beds and pillows. It's very soothing and relaxing.
You can also diffuse lavender in the evening.
Beware! It will make you sleepy as well.

#8 Most Essential Item for Summer Survival
All Natural Mosquito/Bug Spray:
2 of the men in our little family are mosquito bait especially in the summer! Believe it or not some Essential Oils are as good if not better than poisonous over-the-counter bug spray. This is also good for protecting against spider bites.
Repellent Blend from doTERRA is the perfect Essential Oil Blend to keep the bugs away from you, your family and your home.
Diffuse it inside or outside to repel bugs. Dilute it to spray directly on your skin and clothes. And put 20 drops in a small (2 oz) spray bottle to spray around your door frames and on your screens to keep bugs outside where they belong!
A blend you can make yourself is 10 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil, 10 drops of Lemongrass Essential Oil and 10 drops of Lavender Essential OIl combined with 8 oz. of water in a spray bottle.
Rubbing this blend of Essential Oils directly on the feet at night keep our little ones from worrying about getting eaten alive while they are sleeping. And the blend smells good too!
Cheers to using all natural Essential Oils to effectively repel mosquitos and other summer pests. Tamie and Jesse James

#7 Essential for Summer Survival
Wake Up and Camp! Rub
We don't know about you, but we sometimes have a hard time getting our kids up for camp once school lets out for summer. But working parents (and let's face it, all parents) need their kids to get up and go to summer camp sometimes.
Jess and I have noticed that the combination of Wild Orange Essential Oil and Peppermint Essential Oil is invigorating and refreshing. When we diffuse it in the morning, it makes it so much easier to get the kids up and adam whether it is for school or summer camp. You can also rub this combination on the bottom of your kids feet.
4 drops of Wild Orange Essential Oil
2 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil
Using CPTG Essential Oils is important when using on your skin.
You can also add this to your refillable glass bottle for a cleansing and energizing drink. Cheers! Tamie and Jesse

#6 Essential For Summer Survival
So once our kids are out of school they are safe from lice, right? WRONG! Not to freak you out, but... they can still get lice from movie theater chairs, airplanes seats and blankets, hotel rooms and shared sports equipment to name a few. But help is on the way! Before they leave or get on an airplane just rub a couple drops of Lemongrass Essential Oil or Tea tree Essential OIl (melaleuca) through their hair.

With summer coming upon us "like Cinnamon, so sweet" we should all stock up on some simple things to make it an easy, enjoyable time for us and our kids. Jess and I have compiled some our favorite essential oil recipes that we believe are Essential to Summer Survival!

#1 The Allergy Bomb *(Only use CPTG essential oils)
This year has been one of the worst allergy seasons on record. But because of using the Allergy Bomb recipe I have had to use my allergy pills very little.
I'm not a doctor but I know that this works for me.
1 spoon of honey (we buy local honey from Vans)
2 drops of Lemon Essential Oil
1 drop of Lavender Essential Oil
1 drop of Peppermint Essential Oil

It took about 24 hours for me to feel complete relief from my allergies. I also drank plenty of water (40-60 oz.).

* CPTG or Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils
are pure, natural aromatic compounds that do not contain fillers or anything artificial. They are free of any contaminants such as pesticides or other chemical residues.

We think giving your mom a potted plant is perfectly respectable. Lavender is beautiful and fragrant and the flowers can be used for many things like potpourri, baking, headaches, repelling insects, keeping moths at bay in the closet, making soap, soothing after-sun cream, beauty treatments and on and on. Lavender Essential Oil is one of the most beneficial and widely used essential oils growing on this earth.
There is a huge difference between artificial lavender and pure natural essential oil. Your mom would get years of joy from a potted plant or an Essential Oil Gift. Have a wonderful Mother's Day Everyone! Tamara and Jesse James

Day 13 of Healthier and Tastier Snacking:
All 4 of our kids love our homemade fruit smoothies. It's such an easy Go-To snack for breakfast or after school snack.
I always take those bananas that became too ripe to eat and chop them up, put them in a ziplock baggie and freeze them to use for smoothies:
1 bag of chopped frozen bananas (about 1 small banana)
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup frozen or fresh strawberries
1/2 cup ice
1/4 cup of plain yogurt or just plain milk
3 Tablespoons honey
1 Tablespoon coconut oil
1 scoop of Terra Greens or other green powder (this is such a great veggie/fruit booster, your kids won't even know it's in there)
We blend this in the Bullet and it's like a Jamba juice.
To thin it out you can use water or more orange juice.
Be prepared to be blown away by how delicious and nutritious this is!! Cheers to you all who try to make snacking more delicious and healthier for you and your family! Jesse and Tamie

Day 12 of Healthier and Tastier Snacking:
Our youngest child went to a birthday party recently where the parents made mini pizzas out of whole wheat pita bread. The kids loved them! This got me thinking about how easy it would be to use pita bread for other snack ideas. Jess and I came up with a new twist on nachos. Pita bread Nachos. They are crispy, delicious and wholesome!

1 can chili ( our kids like Hormel with or without meat)
4 round whole wheat pita bread (6 to 8-inches)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 can (4-oz) diced green chilies (optional)
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (optional)
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/3 cup diced tomato
1/2 cup sliced ripe black olives
1/4 cup chopped green onions (parents love this/kids maybe not)

Preheat oven to 350*
If you are going to use the hot pepper sauce; mix the chili, hot pepper sauce and flour together. Heat this in a pan or in the microwave till warm and liquid. (does not take long)
Rub each pita round with olive oil and then cut each one into 8 equal pieces (triangles). Put on a baking sheets and bake for 5-10 minutes depending how crispy you want them.
In the mean time mix the sour cream and the milk together.
When the pita triangles come out of the oven top with chili, tomatoes, chilies, olives, cheese and green onions.
Bake your pita nachos for 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted to your liking.
When they come out of the oven spoon a dollop of sour cream mixture on top of each one.
Enjoy your Hot, Crispy and Wholesome Pita Nachos. Cheers!

Day 11 of Healthier and Tastier Snacking:
Much of what we cook signifies the beginning of a season or the celebration of a special holiday. In honor of our many brave soldiers and veterans for Memorial Day I like to make dishes that are naturally red, white and blue since many of us have allergies to the chemicals used in artificial dye. One of my very favorite dishes is my mom's Strawberry and Blueberry Crumble. Enjoy this sweet and tart piece of Americana. Cheers! Jess and Tam

Ingredients
•4 cups blueberries
•2 cups strawberries
•¼ cup brown sugar
•¼ cup flour
•1 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
•Zest of one lemon
•½ tsp. cinnamon
•Dash of salt

•¾ cup old fashioned rolled oats
•⅔ cup light brown sugar
•¾ cup flour
•1 tsp. cinnamon
•½ tsp. ground ginger
•¼ tsp. nutmeg
•¼ tsp. salt
•6 Tbsp. chilled butter cut into small pieces
•½ cup sliced almonds

Instructions
1.Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
2.Prepare the filling by combining all filling ingredients (blueberries through the salt) in a bowl and tossing to blend well. Transfer to a 9-inch glass baking dish.
3.Prepare the crisp by combining the oats, sugar, flour, spices and salt in a medium bowl. Add butter and rub in with fingertips (or use a fork) until moist clumps form. Stir in almonds. Sprinkle evenly over berry mixture.
4.Place pie dish on a baking sheet and bake until berries are bubbling and topping is golden brown, 45-55 minutes. Let stand 15 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature (add vanilla ice cream on top if you wish).

What is your favorite Allergy bomb?? Mine is by far 1 tablespoon of local honey, 2 drops of Lemon Essential Oil, 1 drop of Lavender Essential Oil and 1 drop of Peppermint Essential Oil. Down the hatch every 4 hours. I swear this works as well as my over-the-counter allergy medication!
Just make sure you are using Therapeutic Grade Essential Oil like doTERRA. Not all Essential Oils are alike and many cannot be consumed internally.
