“Bulaos” is the trail or narrow path that animals leave behind when searching for a watering place. The word bears this meaning in the Bulakenyo dialect from the Philippines. The Philippines has 130-195 spoken languages and dialects, which is why some words may carry multiple meanings across regions. In the main Filipino language, “bulaos” also means roar.

“Bulaos” is on display at the Paper Trails Exhibit in View Arts Center, Old Forge New York until July 21, 2024 as part of their summer exhibitions.

Happy to share that my work has been selected for the juried exhibition “Paper Trails” at the View Arts Center in New York!🌿

Paper Trails Exhibit had its soft opening in Old Forge last Saturday and the opening reception is set for tonight at 7pm. The collection’s theme references the great Adirondack Mountains of Northeastern New York.⛰️

I’m very grateful to the juror/s, View Arts Center, and the Guild of American Papercutters for opening their doors to my art practice.💚

Sharing the first framed pieces that I sold from the first opportunity that I had to show my work in person. Our neighborhood (at the time) bookstore holds a seasonal art show inside their shop. Having lived a block away from them, I have frequented the store and actually started building my home library with some of their vintage books.

They encourage local artists to showcase their work in their shop and allow guests to have an even more exciting shopping experience, being surrounded by works from local artists and makers, along with The Armadillo's Pillow's vast book collection.

These framed pieces during the beginning of my journey as a papercut artist sold as a pair to someone when I was not onsite. A colleague at CHIRP Radio (miss you Ellen) reached out to me and told me she saw my work because she knew the man who bought them. He was from the Chicago Tribune, if I recall it correctly.

This was a small and simple start. And I want to share the beauty in humble beginnings. There is more story to be said about how I began, and how it was never easy and it was not received positively. And yet here I am, still cutting paper inspired by your (and my) beautiful memories.🌱

Today’s calm is brought to you by this Florida wedding .🌿 I posted a different design (but of the same state) on another platform. These subtle differences reveal additional customizations that clients collaborate with me for.

Personalized maps are my bestselling work, used for engagement, wedding, and anniversary gifts, as well as birthdays, nurseries, and many others. An important memory at a time and place — I’m always up for thoughtfully creating a delicate papercutting masterpiece for that.💚😌

Hi friends! I’m so excited to announce that I’ve been selected as a finalist in the 2023 Etsy Design Awards!🥰 You can help me win the Klarna People’s Pick Award by favoriting my custom papercut maps at www.etsy.com/listing/545344600 by June 28th.💗

Sarah Jessica Parker and Etsy’s Dayna Isom Johnson will handpick this year's Grand Prize Award and Category Award winners—and the People's Pick Award winner will be chosen by *you*.

It’s an honor to be the only Chicagoan in my product category and most likely the ✨only Filipina✨ in the Finals! I will be so grateful for your support and I am thrilled to be part of celebration of the best of Etsy from around the globe.

Throwing it back to when I thought this kinda felt like I was being a surgeon.🤪 This was a bespoke papercutting art of a couple’s love song. Such a sweet request from the lovely wife to create a sheet music with their wedding song as the design.

Did I individually sketch and cut EVERY SINGLE musical note by hand? YOU BET.😆 Assembling the little pieces on the floral handout background was a fun challenge too – carefully placing each note, clef, and other markings with a tiny tweezer.

It was definitely a labor of love, commemorating love.💗

Is it sunny where you are?🌤️

Over the weekend, I learned from a few West Coast friends that there hasn’t been much sun in California recently. They explained to me what “June gloom” is. It's such an unfamiliar concept to me and I soon discovered that it is a weather pattern in the late spring that is specific to their state, with cloudy and overcast skies paired with cool temperatures, fog, and/or drizzle. This can continue well into summer, otherwise known as "Summer Bummer."😳

I also read a recent article from The New York Times stating that, “California’s June Gloom feels extra gloomy this year.” They even interviewed someone who has not woken up to sunshine in at least six months.

Meanwhile in Chicago, I’ve been playing a dangerous game of guess-if-Alexa-is-LYING before I get out of the door.🫠
