State Drought Response and What the El Nino Means for California

Speaker: Debbie Davis-Franco, California Governor's Office of Planning and Research

Debbie Davis-Franco is the community and rural affairs advisor and local drought liaison in the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR). Join us as Ms. Davis-Franco discusses the challenges faced by local communities during the multi-year drought and the corresponding challenges faced by the State in responding to individual communities' needs. This discussion will touch on the impacts faced by Central Valley communities and California's expanding agricultural industries such as almonds and wine. Pluto's sandwiches will be served!

Speaker: Janelle Krattiger, Herum Crabtree Suntag, 2014-2015 CELPC Fellow

Janelle Krattiger served as the 2014-2015 Environmental Law Fellow for King Hall's California Environmental Law & Policy Center (CELPC), where she researched and wrote extensively on California's landmark legislation, the 2014 Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA). Join us to learn about the Center's environmental law fellowship opportunity for King Hall graduates first-hand from a recent fellow, and for a robust discussion of Ms. Krattiger's research concerning groundwater, and how her fellowship experience translates to her work in the private sector. Ali Baba's falafel and gyros will be served!

Join the Water Association of Law & Policy (WALP) and the Agricultural Law Society for a screening of the crowd-pleasing "Chinatown"! A guest introduction will be provided by Ken Bogdan, Senior Staff Counsel for the California Dept. of Water Resources (DWR), where he will discuss California's current "water wars" and challenges in water transfers throughout the state, specifically regarding the Delta Tunnels and California WaterFix project. Pizza & beer will be served!
