Happy World Music Therapy Week!!
🎶
We love exploring a range of instruments with our clients. This especially helps children with autism with sensory integration and it promotes their tolerance of different noises, volumes, and textures.
🥁
The instruments you can see here are the steel drum, ocean drum, xylophone, and hand bells. These are just some of the instruments used during sessions.
🫧
We also love to incorporate other sensory experiences in our music therapy sessions, such as bubbles, scarves, parachutes, lights etc to promote acceptance of tactile and visual elements, along with auditory. It can also be a very calming experience.

Today marked the end of our time at the wonderful Sudbury Neighbourhood Centre, where we provided music therapy for the locals on Tuesdays over the past 3 years. Unfortunately the centre now has to close after many years of providing day services to older adults in the area.

We created these CDs for each of the group members, which contain songs that have become really special to us within our Tuesday group. Something to help remember the special relationships formed in a very special place 🎶 💿

❄️
Snowflakes is an autism support group.
❄️
Music therapy sessions with the Snowflakes are focused around building social-emotional, cognitive, communication, and functional skills for each child.
❄️
Some activities that we often use to work on these skills are hello and goodbye songs, instrument instruction songs, offering song and instrument choices, movement, speech-focused, sensory, and listening activities, as well as playing a variety of instruments. ❄️
