Grasstrack used to be fun in the 90s until a lowlife sent his mechanic to loosen every bolt and nut on my YZ125 at Hampton Court ground back in 1994. We got to the ground by 2 that Saturday afternoon, we unpacked all the bikes from the truck, I did a few laps on the smoothest ground I had ever ridden on in my life as the late great Mr. Kayamn Sankar paid personal attention to his pride and joy. After we left the ground after practicing nfor about 40 minutes as we didn't want to damage the ground, we started drag racing the different bikes to see how fast the different year models made. My 1982 YZ125 was rocket ship fast and I gave Leonard Jhetoo on his 1987 YZ125 almost 50 feet ahead of me to reach about 200 feet down the road, I caught up with Leonard and blew pass him before he could get into 2nd gear. Terrence Clarke and Sheik Yaseen can attest to this. So after a while we parked the bikes under the shed in compound of the Sankar Guest House. During the night, a serious lowlife took spanners to my bike and loosened every single bolt and nut. On Sunday morning I pushed my bike across to the ground which was less than 50 feet away, started it and went into the first corner wondering why the bike felt so loose, I tumbled upside down for no good reason, I got up and examined the bike and saw the damage that was done. Tears came to my eyes as I had figured we were all friends and I could trust these guys with my life but I was wrong. I spent the rest of the day tightening up that YZ, I didn't bother to ride so I gave it to Greg Hardeen and his dad Peter "Fowl" Hardeen who both placed on podium in the novice and pro classes. 2 days later I exchanged that amazing YZ for a used Yamaha Chappy with my old buddy Raj Sawh who had a lot of fun with it for a few months. I never rode back grasstarck after that and then a few months later I broke my leg doing 3 miles per hours in the pits of South Dakota as I was about to go on a test ride with the YZ125 of Sheik Yassen, that silly accident permanently ended any chances of me ever racing bikes again. Its not nice when vindictive people get involved with motor racing as its a sport where you can easily get injured or die. all in all I totally enjoyed my time racing on the flat track acriss guyana, i didn't race often but whenever I turned up I was able to match speed easily with the top guys who had been at it for years non stop. One day i will tell you how I almost kicked Kurt Alphanso off his bike at Cosmos after he ran me talk when he won the first race that my buddy Kennard Lovell palkced second and I took the third spot on an old Yahama XT250 that was more fit to go into Guysuco backdams instead of on a race track. Hey I had also swapped that XT250 with Raj Shaw for some old stereo sets, lol
Motor Racers Association of Guyana, Mr CAG, will be paying gmrsc a visit soon. Don't forget we fired the last committee that didn't want to listen to us.. And we make them pay prize money.
