Earlier this week, our Supreme Court Program joined Attorney Richard A. Simpson (Wiley Rein LLP) for oral arguments in McElrath v. Georgia, a case the students have contributed to through their hard work in the Program.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Supreme Court’s granted the Program’s petition for a writ of certiorari in the criminal case, raising double jeopardy issues. The decision for the Supreme Court to grant review of the cert petition is extremely rare.

🏛Can the government dictate what content social media platforms publish? 📲Can they proscribe how platforms moderate the content of third parties? 📰How about mandating platform transparency?

These are all the questions asked and discussed during last week's UNC School of Law First Amendment Law Review Symposium.

The day started with a keynote address by Congresswoman and Carolina Law alum Deborah Ross '90. Thank you Congresswoman, our esteemed panelists and moderators for joining us.

Yesterday, we welcomed IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel '97 back to Carolina Law.

Before delivering the keynote speech at the 2023 Tax Summit, the Commissioner took time to stop in to Professor Kathleen Thomas' Tax class to field questions from students about tax law, the IRS, and his legal career.

We're very thankful for the hours he spent with our students, answering questions and engaging in serious policy discussions.

Part of Carolina Law's mission of preparing future lawyer leaders is instilling a commitment to community and service to the state and beyond. Learn more about table here: https://tablenc.org
