Hospitals 1 secured a hard fought victory against Andrew Jacks Highland 1 rink in a rearranged Province Div 1 fixture. Both teams walked off the ice after one end in the original fixture due to appalling ice conditions on sheet E.
Fortunately this time the ice was excellent & contributed to a high quality game, with both teams excellent stone placement producing exciting ends that could have gone either way.
Hospitals edged it largely due to snatching a 3 in the 4th, with some more good play, but fine margins though.
It was a shame there had to be a loser!

Hospitals 1 0 0 3 1 0: 5
Highland 0 1 1 0 0 1: 3

A mixed week for Hospitals rinks this week in the province, Alex Matheson's rink going down 10-2 to Stuart Robb's Highland 8 rink in division 2, leaving them rooted at the foot of the table.
In division 1, Andy Wood's rink bounced back from their opening defeat to post a convincing 10-3 win over Roy Sinclair's Highland 3 rink, which leaves them lying joint second in the table.

Losing starts to both Hospitals 1 & Hospitals 2 in their re-arranged Inverness Province opening fixtures due to early season ice issues.
Andy’s Hospitals 1 rink lost narrowly 4-5 to Kingsmills 2, the performance was pretty encouraging for the first throws of the season, a peel might have been justified, but takes nothing away from a very competent Kingsmlls rink skipped by Alan Morton.
Alex’s hospitals 2 found themselves on the wrong end of a 14-3 defeat from a “beefed up” Loch Ness 3 rink. The Loch Ness rink using their experienced subs to great effect, a bit of a curling lesson but it will stand the Hospitals rink in good stead for the rest of the season.

HOSPITALS WIN IRL DIVISION 2 TITLE

The curling gods smiled on Hospitals last night as they overcame all the odds to win the Inverness Ice Rink League Division 2 title.
Several things had to happen, Nairn 2 & Dornoch both had to lose & Hospitals had to win big to overcome a significant shots deficit.
Andy's rink got off to the perfect start with an opening 6, but with Nairn's Michael Green racing to a 4-0 lead after 2 ends and the Dornoch rink skipped by Ian MacKay coming back after a poor opening, all seemed lost.
However Hospitals powered on, stealing end after end and finished with another 6 in the eighth to win by a remarkable 20-0. The Nairn rink slumped to a 10-4 defeat to Kingussie & Ann Gibb's Ross Ladies overcame Dornoch 6-4, the title was Hospitals.

Div 1 table update

16/02/2022

Inverness Province Div 1
Hospitals 1 (Andy Wood) 5-6 Highland 1 (Andrew Jack)

Hospitals 1 season petered out after a second defeat in two nights against Andrew Jack’s Highland rink.
It proved to be a very even game & came down to the final two stones.
After the disappointing finish, skip Andy Wood reflected on the season, “We lead the table nearly all the way & was Hospitals best performance in division 1. It looks likely we will finish runners up. A great effort by the whole team”

16/02/2022

Great effort by Alex Matheson’s rink currently 3rd in division 2, having played all their fixtures. They will finish no worse than 4th.

Hospitals 1: 7-9 HIDB

Hospitals had to change their line up with no2 Jenny MacGregor, being sidelined by CoVid so Brian Morrison stepped in as sub.
Despite an opening 4, the hospitals rink contrived to lose their first province fixture this season and with it their position at the top of the table with one game to play.
Poor stone placement on the infamous sheet E, contributed much to the teams downfall, but credit to Sandy Renfrew’s rink for adapting better to the tricky ice and were deserved winners.
Our final game is tonight against Andrew Jacks Highland rink, who sit third in the table. A win will secure at least 2nd spot, but it will be a tough ask.

IRL: Hospitals 7-2 Nairn
A good solid performance saw Hospitals comfortably defeat league leaders Nairn, picking up six ends in the process and leaves Hospitals well established in the top half of the table.
