Building and testing our prototype wind turbines!
Today we researched and learned how wind turbines work. Then, we worked in groups to design a prototype for a wind turbine that could lift a bucket of pennies. Tomorrow we will build our designs and test them!
Halloween!
Photos from Friday's Move-a-thon!
Photos from our incredible field trip to the Reinhardt Dairy Farm on Friday! Some of the amazing things that stood out to our kids were
-they sell their milk by the pound, not the gallon
-they have over 550 cows on the farm that are all milked automatically by robots
-they produce corn strictly for cow feed and not for people to consume
-the cows wear devices similar to Fitbits so the farmers can monitor their health
-each cow gives birth approximately one time every year.
-we saw cows that were actually born the night before we arrived!
We went out to the field this morning to see if we could estimate how many blades of grass are on it. Ask your child how we figured it out!
Photos of some of the science experiments we have been doing. We tested how much seeds can grow without water, air, and sunlight. We also found out plants do not gain mass from soil, and can sprout and grow without it.
It was a hot one today without AC but we made it work!
Kids did a great job using nonverbal communication as they lined up by their birthdays without speaking.
We also did a fun activity where kids had to decide within their group how they would survive different scenarios on a deserted island and defend their choices to the class.
Great Tuesday!
Lots of fun today switching classes with all five fifth grade teachers and doing a different team-building activity in each room. We played Landmines in our room. Ask your child which game they liked best!
Fun first day in 5th grade!
Thank you for an amazing year! (And for the bunny ears.) Have a great summer and good luck in middle school to this fantastic group of kids!
They escaped!
Fun day presenting topics to fellow 5th graders on force and motion, earth science, organisms, and matter!
Happy 100th day of school! Meeting with our 2nd grade buddies for a 100th day activity.
More photos from our day at Biztown.
We had an incredible day at Biztown!! Ask your child about their job and how their day went!
Our fifth graders are currently learning how to be a productive member of a community. Today, they got to participate in a career fair to learn about how different careers impact our community. We had a police officer, firefighter, HR Superintendent, Air Force pilot, university teacher, nurse, realtor, several managers, a club soccer director, and many more! Some of the companies represented were AT&T, Monsanto, Purina, and First Bank. Thank you to all of our volunteers for an amazing experience!
These boys were the first to figure out this riddle on the screen behind them today!
Sharing our personal narratives with our buddies this morning!
Collaborating and creating marble mazes from cardboard this morning in the library. Some even have trap doors, staircases, and second stories!
We got to meet with and get to know our second grade buddies today!
Learning about place value with Yahtzee on this fine Wednesday morning.
Fun first two days of school! Have a great weekend Flyers!
Awesome first day of school! We managed to stop for a minute to take a few photos of our 5th grade paper, rock, scissors contest and one of our classroom team-building activities. Ask your child what was their favorite part of the day!
Dressel's first 5th grade class is moving on to Sperreng! Be sure to come back and visit us! Thanks for a great year!
