Still lots of opportunities to come out and support the trails we love. This is by far the biggest fundraiser for CamRock trails every year. Volunteers are what makes these events fun for everyone.

Do your kids like to bike? Do they like to spend time on trails or being in the woods? Why not let them do both at the same time?!?!

Come check out the Camrock Mountain Biking Team! Open to students going into grades 6-12 in the fall. Season runs July through October. Practices are Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Most kids who try it out once enjoy it so much they join the team. And, lots of kids ride MTB AND do another sport at the same time. Come ride with us! (www.camrockmtb.com)

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out for the Trails Day At CamRock yesterday. We had folks from Illinois to Waukesha to Portage and everywhere in between. Somewhere between 50 and 60 people came out on a chilly windy day to pitch in! Tons of quality work done, both eliminating problem areas and adding fun features at the same time! The trails are dialed. I hope you can get out and enjoy them!

Let’s be smart out there this weekend folks. It’s going to be a fun one, but pretty toasty. A few degrees cooler for Race Day.

Come out and do a little fun racing to see where you are at for the season. Or volunteer to help out the trails we love to ride. The $$ stays here for more trail improvements. As usual we will have the course set on Friday.

We use a lot of acronyms and nicknames for things in mountain biking. I remember being totally confused as a new MTB parent. So we'd like to take a step back and explain some things that everyone usually just assumes you know:

NICA stands for National Interscholastic Cycling Association (nationalmtb.org). We sometimes refer to NICA as "National" because they are the ultimate decider and rule maker for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Cycling League. The hierarchy goes NICA-->Wisconsin Interscholastic Cycling League-->CamRock.

Wisconsin Interscholastic Cycling League (wisconsinmtb.org) is a chapter of NICA. We often refer to this as simply "Wisconsin League" or even just "League." School teams that are a part of the Wisconsin League follow NICA rules and are not a part of WIAA, which oversees most other school sports. The Wisconsin League season starts in July and runs through October. There are 7 races during September and October, but race participation is not mandatory.

The CamRock Climbers (camrockmtb.com) is a team under the Wisconsin Interscholastic Cycling League. Just to make things even more confusing, we call ourselves CamRock, but we are actually made up of several separate teams: Lake Mills, Cambridge, Monona Grove, and CamRock Composite. There are several reasons having to do with NICA rules that we are broken into 4 teams. But on top of that, we have enough riders from the Lake Mills, Cambridge, and Monona Grove school districts for them to be individual teams. That said, we all practice together, go to races together, and cheer for each other. Our virtual preseason informational team meeting for new and returning riders is Wednesday, May 24, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at https://meet.google.com/kkw-wcxb-gxc.

CamRock Youth MTB Club (camrockmtb.com/camrock-mtb-club) (aka Club) is not a part of NICA or Wisconsin League, nor is participation in it a requirement to join the official Wisconsin League CamRock team. You will find, however, that most of the coaches for the club are also coaches for the CamRock team. We offer the club as a way for kids to try out mountain biking and/or for them to get more mtb riding in a structured environment. More kids on bikes means a stronger mtb future.

WORS stands for Wisconsin Off Road Series (wors.org). It is a series of mountain bike races throughout Wisconsin that start in May and run through August. It has no affiliation with NICA or the Wisconsin League. WORS is its own separate entity started by Don Edberg and now run/owned by Trek. There are race classes/categories for all ages and skill levels. These races are a great way to introduce kids to mountain bike racing and to help prepare for the fall NICA races! That's why you'll see us post about WORS races here. There are 9 races total, with the 2nd of the series coming up this weekend at Englewood in Fall River (more info at facebook.com/WORSRacing).

WORS leads me to one more organization that you should know about: USA Cycling (usacycling.org). WORS is sanctioned under USA Cycling. You will need a USA Cycling License to register for a WORS race. Kids under 18 qualify for a free USA Cycling License. Just sign up on the USA Cycling website and keep the license # handy. Adults can opt to purchase a one-day USA Cycling License for $15 on the WORS registration site.

Please ask if you have any questions about any of this. We tend to assume that everyone knows what the heck we are talking about, but again, I remember being thoroughly confused my first year or two as a new CamRock parent. We are happy to answer any and all questions!
