October is Protestant Reformation Month!
We will be reading the complete shorter works of Martin Luther this entire month!
Luther understood and taught that the Bible alone is the Word of God. Unlike some stupid Presbyterians today, who teach that the Bible is to be read through the "lens of the church's confessions," Luther correctly pointed out that no confession is inspired, infallible, or had authority over our consciences! The Bible alone is the infallible interpreter of Scripture. Christ commands us to read the Bible for ourselves—and utilize our private individual judgment to test all things! Confessions are to be tested against the Bible alone—and wherever they disagree with the Bible, they are to be rejected. Luther writes:
"I am well aware how little the church has been profited since they have begun to collect many books and large libraries, in addition to and besides the Holy Scriptures, and especially since they have stored up, without discrimination, all sorts of writings by the church fathers, the councils, and teachers. Through this practice not only is precious time lost, so that the Bible lies forgotten in the dust under the bench (as happened to the book of Deuteronomy, in the time of the kings of Judah)...It was also our intention and hope, when we ourselves began to translate the Bible into German, that there should be less writing, and instead more studying and reading of the Scriptures.
(Selected Writings of Martin Luther, 1517-1520, pages 7-8)
When's the last time you read your Bible? Do you even have a Bible? Some don't. Have you read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation? You should carefully and diligently read every page of God's book often:
"Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read: no one of these shall fail."
(Isaiah 34:16)
The Bible alone is the Word of God (Sola Scriptura)!
Does God have your attention? You think you are safe? You could die at any time. Then the judgment. If you die at this moment, will you be sent till hell, which is the beginning of everlasting damnation? A sinner must be justified before he can go to heaven. The Bible says:
“How then can man be justified with God?”
Job 25:4
God’s Law demands perfect obedience. If you have sinned once, you are a sinner worthy of eternal death:
“For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”
James 2:10
“For the wages of sin is death.”
Romans 6:23
People waste their lives watching Netflix, doing drugs, chasing another drink of liquor, having adulterous affairs, playing video games, playing sports, watching sports, trying to get wealthy, trying to destroy other people, trying to build a business or an empire, trying to be a good person, then they die and go to hell…forever.
“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
Mark 8:36-37
Men are afraid of many things, but what should you fear?
“And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.”
Luke 11:4-5
Sinners have good reason to fear a Holy God:
“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
Hebrews 10:31
When it comes to salvation, no man can save himself from God’s just judgment. Jesus is very clear about this:
“When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:25-26
There is one way alone for sinners to be saved from their sins:
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 14:6
We must be saved in the name of Jesus Christ alone:
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
Acts 4:12
You must believe in Jesus Christ alone for salvation—you must believe Christ is our Messiah and Redeemer—or you will die in your sins:
“ I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.”
John 8:24
You die in your sins and you go to hell, for you will die under the condemnation of God’s Law. It’s no joke.
It’s too late for many. The truth is that many have already died and went to hell. They will never escape. They will be punished forever—and there will be weaping and gnashing of teeth.
Many are there now in that awful place, who thought they were too smart to read the Bible. They thought the Bible was foolishness when they were alive:
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness.”
1 Corinthians 1:18
If these words scare you, if you are afraid of going to hell, you are being convicted by the Holy Spirit and the Law of God:
“To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.”
Hebrews 3:15
What shall you do, sinner? What is the only intelligent question an unconverted sinner can ask?
“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
Acts 16:30
When that question is asked by a trembling sinner, then the Law has one more command—one thing to say to that sinner:
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.”
Acts 16:31
Those that trust in Jesus will never die and go to hell. Jesus promises:
“ I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”
John 11:25-26
The moment we believe the Gospel our sins are forgiven, we are acquitted from all our guilt, and God pronounces us innocent—based solely on what Jesus Christ alone did for our justification.
“For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.”
Romans 4:3-8
Because we were born in sin, unable to do any good, Jesus came to be our Surety in the Covenant of Grace. Because Adam failed as our representative in the Covenant of Works, transgressing by eating the forbidden fruit, his guilt was imputed to our accounts. To save us, Jesus came as our Mediator and Redeemer in a better covenant—the Covenant of Grace.
As our Savior, Jesus did everything we should have done—He kept God’s Law perfectly for us. He also suffered the penalty for our sins, paying for them, suffering and dying in our place. God charged all our guilt to Jesus, who shed His blood to pay the ransom to deliver us from the Law’s condemnation. By expiating our sins, Christ appeased God’s wrath, propitiating it, and turning it away from us. Christ satisfied the Law by dying for us. He was buried and rose for our justification on the 3rd day.
For the sake of Christ, for what He alone did for us, God freely credits Jesus’ righteousness to our accounts the moment we believe the Gospel. He pardons all our iniquities and accepts our persons. We are treated as if we had never sinned, because of the life and death of Jesus for us. Christ’s sacrifice reconciled us to the Father and we are made the friends of God. Based on the perfect work of Christ alone, our legal status is permanently changed from guilty to innocent. Because Christ was numbered with the transgressors, and because Jesus was treated the way we deserve—for while we are sinners, Jesus was righteous and never sinned—we are freely adopted into God’s family and granted a title to eternal life.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.”
Romans 5:8-11
When we believe the Gospel, we are justified by faith alone—apart from our works:
“Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.”
Romans 3:28
We have peace with God the moment we look to Jesus—the second we believe the Gospel:
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Romans 5:1
If you believe that Jesus died for your sins, if you look to Christ alone for salvation, then carefully and diligently read your King James Bible. You will learn the promises of Almighty God, who has predestinated whatsoever comes to pass—the saving promises of Jehovah who cannot fail, for it is impossible for God to lie or not to accomplish what He desires:
“Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read: no one of these shall fail.”
Isaiah 34:16
“ But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth. For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.”
Job 23:13-14
“43 The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low.
“44 He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.”
(Deuteronomy 28:43-44)
God’s judgment on our sinful land increases. The people of our United States should confess their sins to the Lord, ask that God forgive them for the sake of Christ alone—and grant us an interest in serious reading of the Bible with the intent to understand and believe the Holy Scripture!
