TALKING POINTS:
WE NEED RUBIO TO VOTE YES FOR THE ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN OF 2023 (S.25)
- In shootings where assault weapons or large-capacity magazines are used, 155% more people are shot and 47% more people are killed.
- We had an assault weapons ban in 1994, but Congress allowed it to expire 10 years later.
- In the decade after the ban expired, over 300 people were shot and killed in 34 mass shootings, representing a 183% increase in massacres and a 239% increase in fatalities.
- As of 2020, there were 20 million AR-style fi****ms in the United States. Today, they are the preferred style of weapons for any would-be mass shooter.
- As of early May, the Gun Violence Archive has counted more than 200 mass shootings in the United States this year.
- Just a few days ago the The Supreme Court turned down a request to put on hold laws banning AR-15-style weapons and large ammunition magazine in Illinois. Now let’s make the ban nationwide!
