BOSTON SHORT FILM FESTIVAL CLOSES ANOTHER GREAT EDITION, ANNOUNCES AWARDS WINNERS OF 2023!

“The 2023 Boston Short Film Festival was a major success,” says festival host and manager Maarten Cornelis. “The 8th edition of the festival took place for the first time at The Capitol Theater, and we had a great turnout of not only filmmakers but also an attentive and excited audience. It’s always amazing to see the films that come out of the festival. Boston has a great cultural history and scene and our festival is happy to be part of what makes this city so special!”

Cherrypicked from almost 2000 entries, this year’s edition of the Boston Short Film Festival featured a great selection of 62 short films originating from the U.S. and around the world. (The festival’s newest online section, the OFF ON Selection, remains available for streaming until July 21, more info on the website: www.bostonshortfilmfestival.com.)

With this year's panel of jury members having cast their final votes, the Boston Short Film Festival is delighted to announce to you today the award winners for its 2023 edition:

Best Boston Film: Jerome (USA) by Gianfranco Fernández-Ruiz.

Synopsis: Dan always wanted to be an actor, but instead of achieving his dreams, he ends up a chromakey technician on movie sets. Covered in a bright green suit from head to toe, he is stuck in a rut until he gets offered an audition and the possibility to step into the limelight. Within an autobiographical narrative where the images were entirely captured in the forest of Chaney in Switzerland, running embodies the intimate link between the protagonist and the forest, a forest that has witnessed a multitude of personal events and that is now being destroyed by a gravel pit. Immersed in a fragmented world, Simon questions the reasons that pushed him to 3D scan his forest. He questions his relationship with the living world, with the limits of matter, and with the limits of digital representations of nature.
