Supreme Court says Florida can’t enforce anti-drag law | CNN Politics The Florida law that limits drag shows in the state will remain blocked, the Supreme Court said Thursday, dealing a blow to a key initiative championed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

PFLAG LFT was active in the community in 2023. In addition to monthly meetings with amazing speakers, here is a list of things that we did and are proud of!

-we host our monthly Parent’s Support Group at St Barnabas Episcopal Church often attended by The Family Tree LGBTQ counselor Lexi Menard M.S., PLPC and facilitated by PFLAG OG Kirby Jambon 👨‍👨‍👦‍👦👩‍👩‍👧👨‍👩‍👦🩷

-we supported Acadiana Q***r Collective ‘s Inclusive Prom 🪩🕺🏼💃🏻

-we spearhead the painting of the
Y LAFA ETTE sign in Parc Sans Souci for Pride Month every year! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

-we successfully encouraged Lafayette Consolidated Government to issue a proclamation acknowledging June as PRIDE month in Lafayette!! 😁

-we participated in Pride Acadiana by marching in the pride parade, provided a booth with information and prizes, and participated in LGBTQ trivia! 🎉

-we tabled for ArtWalk Lafayette at the Acadiana Center for the Arts and brought our love, information, and our famous PFLAG National merch to the public ℹ️💖

-for the 2nd year, we celebrated and honored LGBTQ history month at Beausoleil Books with a special presentation by the author of Making Gay History, Eric Marcus. We raffled off copies of his book and had door prizes! It was a fabulous night 🩷🤩🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

-in December we will participate in Downtown Lafayette’s Christmas Tree Extravaganza for the 4th year in a row! 🎄🎄🎄🎄

In 2024, we would love to add to our list. We would like to grow and continue be here to fight for inclusion in our area👊💟💯🟰

These events and activities cost money! We can’t do it without your support. Lafayette needs more love and inclusion and we want to be here to help!

The New York Times reported today that the Canadian government has issued a travel advisory LGBTQ+ travelers planning visits to the US. 🇨🇦🇺🇸

The United States currently has over 500+ pieces of legislation attacking LGBTQ+ rights with more on the way. This travel advisory is intended to serve as a message of caution for LGBTQ+ travelers. Specific states are not listed or mentioned.

The next meeting will be July 6, 2023 at the Lafayette Public Library located at 301 West Congress Street Lafayette, LA 70501. The meeting will begin at 6 pm in the Second Floor Meeting Room. There will be no guest speaker this month. The business meeting will follow the general meeting. In the general meeting, we will be discussing PRIDE Acadiana and future events for PFLAG Lafayette. PFLAG Lafayette had a booth at the PRIDE Acadiana event and met so many people who share our vision.

Guest speakers for future meetings are being lined up and we sincerely hope you will attend. Anyone is welcome to attend our meetings and learn more about PFLAG. Please feel free to make suggestions that will help PFLAG more responsive to the community.

Pride never ends. We're all year long and we'll never stop fighting for a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

You can walk with PFLAG Lafayette in the Acadiana Pride Parade this Saturday at 9:00 am in Downtown Lafayette. Parade registration is on the AQC website https://www.acadianaqueercollective.org
You will have to register but you won't have to pay. Dory Thomassie is the team captain. PFLAG Lafayette is very excited to participate in this event. There will be booths and events beginning at 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please join in celebrating this Saturday.

I am so proud of Downtown Lafayette for putting up these flags. Everyone has the right to live the way they choose and love who they love. Thank you, Downtown Lafayette for having the courage to put up these flags. I look forward to the day when flags like this go up and no one is angry or hateful. Remember God Don't Make Trash!!!
