With a large hole above the bridge that nearly reaches the sound hole; the result of flatpicking and strumming on a guitar designed to be played fingerstyle and even the steel frets have been worn down to wavey lines from the extensive playing.

The top and body, meanwhile, has been signed by over one hundred of Nelson’s friends, resulting in an instrument decorated in history unlike any other signed by the likes of Gene Autry, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings to name few from over a hundred signatories.

The Wolf 🐺

Chester Burnett aka HOWLIN' WOLF had a bigger-than-life style all his own, with a huge rough voice and his signature howl, half yodel, half call-of-the-wild. He grew up in Mississippi and Arkansas and soaked up the music directly from Charley Patton, Blind Lemon and Jimmie Rodgers, The Singing Brakeman. He was a farmer, then a soldier in WWII and then a radio announcer before recording at Sun in Memphis, then moving to Chicago in 1952. His songs are unforgettable: "Smokestack Lighting," "Meet Me in the Bottom," which he played slide guitar on, "Howlin' for my Darlin'," "300 Pounds of Heavenly Joy," and more. Love the Wolf!

Big Bursfest was a wholesome affair with most of my favourite musical acts from Southampton playing and on great form! Including Steve Lowis Music, Hedgehogs, Grant Sharkey (was great apart from when he did that spoken word bit and lost the audience 😉), Owen Hackett and the majestic Teharli River. I also saw The Henry’s for the first time and they blew my tiny mind 🤯 amazing!!
Sadly I missed Utter Buskers, Fragile Lucy and Rob Clamp Music Next time!!
Brilliantly organised and everyone coming together for a really good charitable cause which I have forgotten….. Roll of Bursfest 13 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

As most of you know, by day I teach music performance and production at Itchen College. We’ve just launched an exciting kickstarter campaign to create our own original vinyl LP amongst other things!! The students are very very talented and I won’t go into all the details here, but please follow the link and help us make this happen for them if you can.
