What is metabolic flexibility, and what does it have to do with PCOS?
Metabolic flexibility is the ability to switch between burning glucose and fat seamlessly (Smith et al., 2018).
I'm so excited to share my @lumen.me with you as it's really helped me lately with my hormones.
Our bodies run on two primary fuel sources: carbs and fat. Our body will always use carbs first, and when our carb stores run out, the body will switch to stored fat instead.
The hormone insulin plays a crucial role in regulating this dance between burning carbs and burning fat for energy.
Unfortunately, most people living with PCOS have some insulin resistance (even lean people).
Insulin resistance leads to high levels of insulin circulating in your blood. That extra insulin irritates your ovaries and causes them to produce excess amounts of androgens.
When my insulin resistance was out of control, and my androgens were high, I struggled with acne, cravings, fatigue, and weight gain.
The good news is that diet and exercise can stop this vicious cycle of high insulin and high androgens in its tracks. It took me a lot of trial and error to find the right self-care program for my unique case of PCOS.
That's where Lumen can save the day. Lumen is a metabolism tracker that tells you whether you are burning mainly fat or carbs at a given time and provides you with nutritional recommendations to help you improve your metabolic flexibility.

I've been using Lumen for the past few weeks. I found out that my metabolic flexibility was good but not great. I'm using the real-time feedback Lumen provides to fine-tune my PCOS lifestyle and prevent insulin resistance.
