Lake Monticello Volunteer Rescue Squad is a 100% volunteer agency that is dedicated to providing Emergency Medical Services to Lake Monticello and Surrounding Fluvanna County 24/7, 365 days a year. Our volunteers are what makes this services possible, our community is our MAIN support, and with out either of them we would not be able to operate. Landing Zone Safety Tips of the Day:
-Remember to be aware of the dangerous areas when approaching Duke Life Flight’s EC145 helicopters at a scene.
-Always get permission from the pilot or on-board crew before approaching the helicopter.
-Do not go near the tail boom when the helicopter is running.
-Different types of helicopters may have different safe, caution, and danger zones. It's important to be familiar with the medical helicopters that serve your region.

Please join us in welcoming Jeff Ferguson, M.D., Henrico Fire’s Operational Medical Director (OMD). Dr. Ferguson was named OMD after nearly a decade contracting with the Division as its Deputy Medical Director. As Henrico Fire’s first full-time OMD, Dr. Ferguson’s responsibilities include emergency medical dispatch protocols, pre-hospital medical treatment, and patient care for EMS providers.
A professor and resident advisor at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Ferguson is board-certified in both emergency medicine and Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Before being named Henrico Fire’s staff OMD, he served in similar capacities for Richmond Raceway (NASCAR) and Virginia State Police and held various positions of progressive leadership in the East Carolina University health system.
A National Registered Paramedic, guest lecturer, and published author, Dr. Ferguson’s achievements include NASCAR Medical Director of the Year (2019), Governor’s Award (Va.) for Outstanding Physician Contribution to EMS (2017), and two regional awards from Old Dominion Emergency Medical Services Alliance (ODEMSA). He is a volunteer rescue squad life-member and a contributing instructor for the Compress and Shock Foundation.
Dr. Ferguson completed his bachelor’s (biology) at VCU and attended medical school at the University of Virginia, where he earned his master’s degree (health evaluation sciences) and medical degree (M.D.). Dr. Ferguson’s residency and EMS fellowship also occurred at U.Va.
