It's ...a day late. 🙃Are you familiar with Project QUILTING? It is hosted by Persimmon Quilts and Quilt Chicken and a new season starts every January. There is a themed challenge posted every other week, and season 15 just kicked off. The theme for week one was "bird house" and here is my completed challenge piece. I started and finished this on Saturday...way before the noon Sunday deadline! 😂 I used fabric scraps and the AccuQuilt tumbler die and quarter square triangle die to make my birdhouse mini quilt. My grandpa used to make actual birdhouses with punny signs so I had to add a "home tweet home" sign for him. ♥️ The next challenge will be posted this Saturday, January 20 at noon CST. It's ! It's no secret that I am a huge fabric scrap saver. 🤦‍♀️But it's no good saving fabric scraps if you don't actually USE them! One of my goals this year is to use these beautiful fabrics to make beautiful quilts for others. First up...72 for a . I have made 9 blocks so far by sewing a little bit each day. ❤️ I wonder how many quilts I can make from my fabric scraps this year?

So....it's been a hot minute! How was your 2023? My 2023 had a lot of changes, and I'm ready to regroup and start 2024!

I will be participating in a FREE BOM this year hosted by A Quilting Life. One of my many goals this year is to not buy more fabric and sew just from my stash. I made my January block last night. I'm doing some major sorting/decluttering in my sewing room and all the "floral" fabrics have gone into a pile. I'll be making my blocks using some random Joann's fat quarters and vintage floral fabrics, and honestly I think it's going to be beautiful. A bit delayed, but here is the March block for the 2022 Modern HST BOM! This block is designed by Zina!

I finally finished the first block for the 2022 HST BOM! I'm using Moda Speckled fabrics by Rashida Coleman-Hale, and my blocks are 24" (finished). I plan on using lots of colors but in a more controlled way than my usual crazy scrappiness. The second block will be released tomorrow so we can get back on track. After that, there will be one block per month released on the first of each month.

I feel like my page is always last to get updated for the HST BOMs. So...even though it's not officially February 1, here is a link to the first block for the 2022 Modern HST BOM!

I'm anticipating lots of questions, so please don't hesitate to ask. January flew by, and I'm still recovering from 2020 and 2021. 😂 (Has Covid seriously been part of our lives for that long?) I have plans to make things easier to understand (like downloadable PDFs for each month's block), but I'm just not there yet.

Here are the quantities of each block unit you will need for the 12 blocks for the 2022 Modern HST BOM. I'm using the AccuQuilt 3" x 6" (finished) Half Rectangle Triangle Die so my monthly 16 patch blocks will be 24" x 24"! Once again, this year's blocks are flexible and you can choose any size you like. Your rectangles and half rectangle triangles will be a 1:2 ratio of your HSTs and squares. For example, to make 16" x 16" monthly blocks, your HSTs and squares will be 4-1/2" (4" finished) and your rectangles and half rectangle triangles will be 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" (2" x 4" finished).

Mark you calendars...Zina and I are finishing up block designs and figuring out fabric requirements for the 2022 Modern HST BOM which kicks off February 1! This year we're adding half rectangle triangles into the mix!

Here is my completed quilt! I had this completely finished on 10/31 so I could submit it to QuiltCon. (It wasn't accepted to the show, but that's ok!) I'm so excited to finally get to share it!
