If you're not super familiar with geology, what's happening in Iceland right now is pretty wild and sad. The entire nation is very geologically active because it's basically a portion of the Mid Atlantic Ridge that has been uplifted and is above water. Over the last week thousands of small to moderate earthquakes have hit near the city of Grindavík on the SW coast. Geologists are calling for a likely eruption because these earthquakes indicate magma forcing its way up through the crust. As the magma builds pressure and rises due to being more buoyant, it fractures the crust and causes major deformation. This map released by the Iceland Met Office shows the displacement over the last few days. Orange indicates no displacement, cooler colors represent ground dropping, and warmer colors represent ground rising. There areas of Grindavík that have already dropped by 1m + since this began. All of this points to a likely eruption somewhere along this deformation zone and likely very close to or within Grindavík.

I hunt UFOs, Ghosts, and Big Foot - and by hunting, I mean sitting in a circle with my girlfriends asking dumb questions and giggling.
My claim to fame is challenging the Ouija board without incident. I was born, began writing about 30 some odd years later, and somehow still do that.
Oh yeah, black eye children. They knock on your door and ask to come in. Don’t let them in.
