As we come to the end of yet another month, it's time to take a moment and reflect on my decluttering process for August.

I was able to get some big wins this month, and get my medical cabinet sorted, also under the bathroom sink cabinet cleaned out too.

I was hoping to get the kitchen sink cabinet cleaned out as well, but that will have to be September goal now.

I was also able to sort through more of my clothes and remove items that I had never worn or just completely the wrong size.

With only 4mth left in the calendar year, I fear my goal of 2024 items is now out of reach. My new goal is going to be 1000 items for 2024, and if I do more, that will be amazing, but I'm not going to be disappointed if I don't hit 2024 items.

Funny side not, my hubby just turned to me and asked me if I was writing a bloody essay, and I'm just doing my end of month recap for my decluttering. Then I went on to explain that I had declutted 682 items from our house.. his comment from where. Me to hubby: That just goes to show how much crap we have around the house that you haven't even noticed, what I have decluttered. Then his second comment was: You better not get rid of my stuff. Hahaha, no, babe, I don't touch your belongings. Gosh, I love that man.

Item total: 682/2024(1000)

Bathroom cupboard.

Today, I took on our main bathroom cupboard, which I haven't honestly looked out since the pipe burst under it.

To my surprise, there wasn't much under there that needed to be thrown away, as I must have gotten rid of everything that was water damaged after they came out and fixed the leak.

In total, 6 items went in the bin, and 10 items went into my donation box.

But it was nice to just organise it.

Declutter total: 648 items

It's okay to throw it out!!

So today, while folding and putting away last weekends washing, I came across some old tea towels that I have had since I first moved out of home....many many years ago. These tea towels have clearly discoloured, and I have bought new ones and I have been given new ones....so why do I still have these feral old ones. 🤔 in the bin they went.

I also came across some of my hubby's pants that had holes in them bigger than my hand. 😬 Also, a set of socks with holes....again, I thought to myself. He has soooo many sets of pants and socks. Why are we keeping the holey ones!?!

In total, it was about 5 items that I decluttered from my house, so I'm considering this a small win. 😀

🧡 your turn to throw out that old discoloured item, tag so i can see your small win 🧡

When was the last time you cleaned out your medical cabinet?

So this week, I got sick with a head cold, and during my attempts to find throat lozenges, I came across multiple prescriptions out of date. So I figured now was as good as time as any to declutter my medical cabinet.

To my horror, I found items that had expired since 2021. In total, there were about 10 items,  mixed between old scripts and multi vitamin bottles.

It felt so good to get rid of them and have a nice neat medical cabinet again. While looking for a photo of a medical cabinet, I came across this photo and fell in love with this idea that I'm going to implement it in my house.

Omg I can't believe we are in August already! Where is time going.

I have been a bit slack this last month in getting my house sorted but I am still working towards my 2024 goal and I know I'm going to have to kick it up a gear if I want to get there by the end of the year.

My take away from July is:

🪩 taking small steps evey day makes a big difference, even if it's just chucking out that bit of paper that's been sitting on the kitchen table for the last week

🪩 my decluttering had rubbed off on my hubby...he has suddenly decided to clean up his areas of the house (I call this a win in itself)

🪩 even though I havnt given anything away recently just tiding up small areas around the house still feels like an accomplishment

So keep working towards your goals no matter how big or small because little steps everyday make a big difference and keep pushing toward.

Decluttering 2024, we are now mid way through the year. Wow, time is flying. Ideally, I would love to say that I'm halfway to my goal of getting rid of 2024 items from my house, but I haven't even hit 500 items yet.

I'm not disappointed in my progress as progress is progressing and my house is looking way better, but I would love to be closer to my goal.

The past 6mth have taught me that I struggle to let go of my items, especially when I bought them with my hard earned money from when I was 16 with my first job. I saved my pennies and worked hard to carefully select each item with care, like my DVDs and cds.

But sadly as time has moved on so has the technology advances, which makes things relevant to today.

I'm going to keep going with my goal and see where I get to.

How are you going decluttering?

What is your July goal?

APRIL UPDATE: What a roller coaster of a month....I set out a goal to get my clothes cupboard sorted and that did not happen unfortunately.

1st week I had made progress, 2nd week I got sick with a head cold so spent my days off on the lounge resting, 3rd week my LO and hubby caught it 🤣 oops my bad so looking after them and them in the last week of April my Nanna passed away. 😭😔

So yer didn't get nearly as much decluttering done as I would of hopped for.

I'm going to reset for May and try and get the rest of my clothes cupboard sorted 🤞

How did you go with your decluttering goal for April? Did you reach your targets/goal.

March Declutter Update:

Had a really slow March trying to reduce my belongings. So personally disappointed with my progress. But progress is progress and I did manage to reduce our book collection by getting rid of 20 books that we no longer need/use/have looked at/no sentimental attachment too.

I could come up with 100 different excuses as to why I didn't hit my target....been a very rainy month so havnt been able to put anything out of the footpath....been to busy to list anything on market place....but the truth of the matter is life gets busy and that doesn't mean I have failed just means I had different priorities in March and that is okay.

I also want to mention that the things I have been able to sell over February and March was enough for me to be able to go out and pamper myself by getting my hair cut and eye brows waxed. We are a low income house hold so these treatments are considered a luxury to us, so I enjoyed every moment of it.

My goal for April is clothes I have so many that are the wrong size for me but also for some strange reasons I have sentimental attachment to clothes, even though I hate clothes shopping....go figure.

What do you have sentimental attachment too??

Blanket no1 finished for 2024.

This was the 2nd half of my mums present. I used all the left over wool from the temperature worm to make this granny square blanket. There was no rhythm or reason to the colour pattern, I just wanted to make sure I didn't select the same colour next to each other.

The colours are based of my mums favourite colours.

I love making making granny square blankets.

I can finally post this....this temperature worm was a birthday present for my mum. It's the average temporary of the year she was born in the state/country she was born.

I'm so proud of it as this was my 3rd attempt that I settled on. The first two temperature blankets I tried did not turn out at all so they got frogged.

My mum absolutely loves it I also made her a blanket (post to come) with the left over wool from my 3 attempts 🤣

The buttons are 3D printed with the month and her birth year on them from a local computer shop. I'm so happy with how it turned out. ❤️

How are you travelling?

A month ago when I set out to declutter my life, the thought was so overwhelming that I thought it would be impossible. But slowly and surely little by little I have been able to donate/sell/give away items from around the house.

I still have a long way to go to get to 2024 items but doing little by little I strongly believe I will get there.

My advice would be just start, as you can see I don't do one room at a time. I have done a little bit from every room.

Starting with the obvious things, if it doesn't sell after 2wks donate it or give it away for free.

Can not wait to see what it looks like at the end of March.
