I'm back!!!
Alot has happened in my life this past year ...
Having painfully lost my father to Cancer, emigrated with my little family from SA to the UK and starting a new chapter in my career as Special Needs teacher (SEN)....
To say I've just been trying to adjust and adapt is an understatement and I do apologize for the radio silence on this page.
However, it is with much positivity and optimism that I can say I am back and look forward to sharing more teaching ideas, words of encouragement and SEN specific info with my community of followers!
Any ideas to make this page more interactive and engaging... I'm open to your suggestions!
What would you like to see more of? Do please let me know
Blessings to you all xx
Lovely idea for reusing those Advent calendars!!!
Autism, ADHD and Sensory support strategies for parents over the Christmas season.
Let's not forget that this season can be exceptionally overwhelming for many littles as well their parents. Be kind to yourselves and one another, just "do you" and what's best for your unique child.
It is important to remember that the busyness and excitement of the season, while thrilling for most children, might very well be triggers for extreme overload and anxiety in others.
This advice is definitely worth sharing, especially if you are a parent of/or know of a parent of a Special Educational Needs child🎄👍🏻

An important reminder🌈
Non verbal Autism does not mean non Feeling, non Thinking and non Understanding.
Having nonspeaking autism does not mean that a person cannot communicate or understand language. With the right support, a non verbal autistic person can become a strong communicator, with or without verbal language - it just takes an open mind and a shift in perspective to allow ourselves the chance at sharing in their world.
Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and adapted sign/symbol language are but 2 effective ways to alternative communication with non-verbal students.

Happy World Teachers Day to all the amazing teachers out there!
What we do is so much more than can be put into words, and only those in the teaching community can truly relate.
Our challenges are insurmountable and the hours are endless but the rewards, when we focus on them, are so worth every tear, every moment of self doubt and every heart wrenching witness to the injustice of so many young children in this world...
We are a unique breed...
We are special...
We are blessed...
And never forget...
We have been called.
And while we may never make the most money, we certainly do make the most difference - even if we cannot see it now, we plant seeds of influence with every interaction we have with a child and their family... Keep you heads up and your hearts open❤️The world needs you!
What profound and thought provoking words from this young lady!

Play based learning is so important but sadly, so overlooked.
In a world that is so structurally driven, even at the earliest of ages, our little ones are working their way through structured programs and ticking the checklist of the right box that we as adults expect them to fit into.
The reality is that as parents, we need to realise that there is far more to be gained from the freedom that comes from allowing our children to learn through play and exploration... We don't need to be their teacher all the time... Life and the world around them poses just as much, if not more stimuli to actively engage in learning on the daily.
While relying on various programs and educational toys serves its purpose, to a certain degree, our children need to be given more opportunities to freely interact and engage with the world around them and those in it.
Encourage participation in daily activities, like feeding the pets, doing the laundry, helping with meal prep etc. Let them explore with everyday, child friendly objects in a playful but purposeful manner.
I promise, it helps to take alot of the pressure off us as parents to be doing more when we already feel so limited for time and overwhelmed. Playfully and purposefully include your children into the everyday routine... They will benefit from it.
