Who am I?

I am a pediatrician working in the public interest. I blend the roles of physician, occasional children's librarian, educator, public health professional and child health advocate. With graduate degrees in public health, children’s librarianship, physician assistant studies, and medicine, I get to bring a unique combination of interests and experience together. My professional life sits at the delightful intersection of pediatrics, child development, children's literature, public librarianship, economics, education, neuroscience, psychology and public policy.

My formal roles include being an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Director of the MD–MPH Dual-Degree Program, Medical Director of the Physician Assistant Program, and the Medical Director of Reach Out and Read Wisconsin. I also have significant leadership involvement with the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and am involved with a variety of committees at the American Academy of Pediatrics nationally. I practice primary-care pediatrics, with a special interest in underserved populations.
