We will eat together, we will be together, and we will carry on this knowledge without any kind of jealousy, malice, or any kind of klesha within us. With purity of mind we will carry on the knowledge with our teaching process. And that is how, even if we are living on this earth in different areas, we have to have that feel that we are always together.
~Geeta Iyengar, Opening Remarks Yoganushasanam, December 2014

At convention this past week Abhijata demonstrated over and over her skill, kindness, and compassion.
She reminded us that “we are all in this together.” We should feel proud of ourselves if we are still practicing on this side of Covid. It is no small thing!
Here is IYANW’s Kimberly Healey bravely sharing about her grief and isolation due to the pandemic and her subsequent difficulty practicing Pranayama.
Sometimes we are not in a place to practice pranayama and meditation-either because we are newer practitioners and not yet ready or due to life circumstances. In that case, as Abhi mentions it’s better to practice restoratives such as Viparita Dandasana and Setu Bandha Sarvangasana.
Kimberly was one of several IYANW convention grant recipients. She gave permission for this post and would like the community to know how grateful she is for the support to attend and practice together in person.
✨We are grateful for you too Kimberly! Thank you for asking your question. It was of benefit to us all. 💗
Today we had the opportunity to acknowledge all of the steady effort, hours, skill, and heart Nina Pileggi put into revising our assessment process to meet the new RIMYI guidelines.
Revising assessment was a huge undertaking. To do it during covid AND to organize our (IYNAUS) first ever online assessments at the same time was truly amazing.
In Abhijata’s address she spoke of Guruji’s distinction between commitment and resolve. Commitment is inherently fragile because it is fabricated by the mind and depends upon willpower. Resolve is deeper within us and flows thru us. If one is resolved to do something the willpower is automatic.
Nina’s many acts of service for IYNAUS and IYANW over the years have demonstrated her clear and steady resolve to further the study and practice of Iyengar yoga for us all.
✨🙏Thank you Nina!🙏✨
In the above picture Nina is introducing Abhi before her keynote address. This years convention theme is Sankalpa: Intention.
Greetings from San Diego🌴

We had a great board meeting this past weekend! Lots more news to come ✨
The middle of winter hardly seems a time for new things to grow and blossom, especially in our northwestern region. Yet change is afoot with IYANW: our board turns over this month, a major transformation.
This quote from Guruji acknowledges that sometimes change can be a source of fear. We're saying goodbye to a cohort that has helped our organization survive and thrive during a period of global disruption and uncertainty. They have been integral to establishing Northwest Memberfest, expanding grants offerings, and developing our innovative liaison program. Thank you Sara, Erin, and Clare!
But Guruji reminds us that fresh energy and new perspectives move us forward. Our ongoing board members will carry on our procedures, plans, and our strong tradition of teamwork. And of course we are gaining some excellent new members. (Stay tuned to learn more about them.)
AAll nine of us—outgoing, ongoing, and incoming board members—are meeting virtually today. We're laying a foundation for the next chapter of IYANW, and we thank you for your commitment as a member. You are an important part of this organization and its future. Happy new year!
Did you know that IYANW awards quarterly member grants to support YOU as you practice, study, and teach Iyengar yoga? The fall cycle deadline is THIS Friday, September 30.

Memberfest 2022
With Vimla Maharaj
Day 2
Memberfest 2022 has begun!
✨Atha Yoga Anusasanam✨
From this morning:
We are more than qualified to do do do do. We must learn how to “BE” so that we come into the “NOW”.
When we live in the head we forget about our feet.
Brahma the creator brings light and lives in the region of our feet.
In standing poses: press the inner back heel, lift the inner thigh up to the perineum and out thru the crown of the head so there is no room for the vrittis.
Vishnu is the maintainer or sustainer: not so easy to do. How many times does the foot pressure oscillate? How often do thoughts arise during the pose?
Shiva the destroyer helps us to remove what is not serving us so that light and peace may spread within.
Link in bio to register. All sessions are recorded. Recordings good for two weeks.

Northwest Memberfest '22 will focus on skillful action in asana leading to sukha (ease) and fun in asana. The intention is to remove darkness and radiate the light from within. This is the light that surrounds us, protects us and guides us in life. This illumination we all need in these times.
Free to IYANW members, $10 to members of other regions. More details and registration here: https://www.iyanw.org/event/second-annual-northwest-memberfest
