North Oakland Waves Swim Team
NOW is a family-friendly team based out of the North Oakland Family YMCA that has been offering comp Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times.
Instruction, technique, yardage, a positive work ethic, team building, and loads of fun are the NOW experience. Our mission is to encourage each and every NOW athlete to demonstrate:

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives dramatically and forced the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit to regretfully make the difficult decision to permanently close the North Oakland Family YMCA, effective October 6, 2020.

It is time to start gearing up for Championship Season!
If your swimmer(s) are eligible and plan to participate in any of the 2020 Championship meets listed below, please order a complimentary t-shirt online in the apparel store by Sunday, January 12th. Please note the quick turn around on this. No late orders will be accepted.

Please note the shirts come in Adult and Youth sizes so be sure to order appropriately.
You must order your shirt online in order to receive one. No additional shirts will be ordered. Families with more than one swimmer will need to complete a separate online order for each swimmer. Shirts will be delivered during practices the week of February 3rd.

We are having a bowling party on Sunday, January 12th from 1:30-3:30. The details are as follows:
Location: Avon North Hill Lanes
150 W. Tienken Rd.
Rochester Hills, MI. 48306
Arrival Time: 1- 1:15 pm (this will allow for shoe sizing and set up)
Cost: $12 per bowler (includes minimum 2 games of bowling, 2 pieces of pizza, pop)
$6 per non bowler (includes 2 pieces of pizza, pop)

The parent board meeting is at Rochester High School tonight from 7-8pm - we will gather in the cafeteria if it is open otherwise we will meet outside of the media center in the mall area.

Hello NOW families,
I am Pierce Marchese and I swim in the senior group. I am an 8th grade student at Notre Dame Marist. As part of the school's International Baccalaureate program, the 8th graders select an outreach community project to help families in need. As part of this project, myself and another classmate decided to work with the YMCA Detroit Swims Foundation, to help provide inner city kids with swimming gear and funds to support water safety awareness. As part of this project, I will be hosting a gear drive for any swim gear available. All donations will go to the foundation. The gear will be collected anywhere between December 11th- through the 18th . The gear can be given to me at the Rochester High School in between Gold and Senior practice for anyone that swims at the high school, and for kids in red and white group, we can make arrangements to pick up gear/donations at the YMCA at any time.

Upcoming Meets:
The Flint YMCA Falcons host the FLY Winter Invitational at Waterford Kettering HS on January 3-5, 2020. The deadline for entries is December 21st.
The deadline for entries to the Circle City Classic on January 24-26 in Indianapolis is December 11th. The hotel information is on the event page. Swimmers must have achieved the minimum qualifying times at a short course yards meet.
Thursday (December 12) practice for senior/gold is moved to the YMCA from 3-5pm due to a high school boys swim meet at RHS. It's the RHS boys first meet of the season and many of our own NOW swimmers are swimming - come check it out if you are able!

Based on your last name, please bring the following and deliver to concessions during the first session in which your swimmer is participating in the meet.
A-E Case of Water (16.9 oz. bottles) (memo: about 20 families)
F-M Case of Gatorade (one case = 8-20oz bottles) (Blue, Purple, Red, Yellow or Orange) (memo: about 23 families)

A reminder that practice for RHS groups is from 3-5pm at the YMCA today, 10/ 29.
10/31 evening practice is 5:30-7:30pm at RHS (no 7-9pm).
The team picture and pasta party night is Wednesday, November 20th at Rochester High School. Please arrive at 5:30pm with your swimmer in their team t-shirt. We will take the pictures and then have pasta. There will not be a practice that evening. Thank you to Jen Landers for agreeing to coordinate and order the food and to Lorena Marchese for coordinating the photographer! Picture order forms will be available soon.
Don’t forget today is the last day to register for the BBD meet at Lake Orion!
The NOW Intrasquad meet is this Saturday October 12th. This meet replaces regularly scheduled practice for that day. Warm up starts promptly at noon. Meet starts at 1pm. This is a practice meet for swimmers and parent volunteers.
After working with RCS they have agreed to let us hold our normal practices tonight. Gold/Green 5:30-7(Drylands 7-7:30), Senior Plus 5:30-7:30, and Senior 7-9(Drylands 6:30-7). Due to the late notice we are still going to hold the previously scheduled makeup practice at the Y from 3-4:15. Red/White will still swim from 4:15-5.
Practice for Thursday(10/10) will still be from 3-5 at the Y for Gold, Green, Senior, and Senior Plus due to the high school swim meet at RHS.
