Went to my SKK project at Angkunh Village , Takeo Province. Spent time with my Youth team n other children. Also ate with a family. And saw the padi planting season.
Will travel to Siem Reap to see my other project at Travkiet Village.
I visited my Sangkhoem Khmer SKK project in Angkunh this week. Aside from meeting the children and the youth team members, I brought my wife to visit the parents of the youth team members.
I found out that the villages still used pond water for cooking. They could not use well water as water from wells dug many years ago (about 30 metres deep) contains too much minerals. Villagers fall sick drinking the water. They hence use pond water.
But during the hot season (Feb to July) the ponds too dry up. Hence water was of great concern.
They could not afford to dig deep wells which cost usd1400. These deep wells are 60 to 70 meters.
We spent time in the village to plan for a deep well that can serve many families in the vicinity. A villager agreed to coordinate the construction and future maintenance of the well. He will ensure that any family in the commune can have water from the well which is located in his compound.
With this assurance and plan, my wife and I donated the well to the community. The well construction was completed in 5 days. We were able to see that the well is completed before the hot season.
There are still such needs in the community in Cambodia.
Anyone who wants to help in improving the lives of people in the rural villages can contact me.
