This Friday starts a 3 week class on scent detection. Sniffing is such a necessary thing for your dog. See how it can relax and excite your dog all at once! Dogs always go one at a time so even if your dog isn't great with other dogs, they are ok. Not physically hard for the dog or handler. You would be amazed at how many senior dogs love the opportunity to "work".
Email the address on the flyer to reserve a spot!
In addition to our basic classes, the Aloha Dog Academy will be offering AKC STAR Puppy classes and Canine Good Citizen classes. Starting Sunday Aug 18th. 6 week classes. Message me for more information or to register!

Wed morning obedience class!
It kills me when people join an obedience club or hire a trainer and are told they have to use a choke or prong. No harnesses allowed.
Harnesses DO NOT teach your dog to pull. The right harness can help you have better control without pressure on the throat. If you feel uncomfortable with the tools someone is asking you to use, then advocate for your dog. Listen to your gut. There are better ways. If we don't mesh for training, I can give you other trainers to try. But you don't have to use a tool you don't feel comfortable with. I have had so many clients tell me they used a tool because that is what they were told to get and they didn't like it but the person they hired said they wouldn't get results without it. Bottom line is that all the things you are learning in that class or from that trainer can be taught without the use of aversive tools. There is no need to use them. And yes, even big dog's don't need them! They are not "safer". A large dog can still pull you over.
Picture of a dog's neck anatomy to think about when you use a collar that tightens around their neck. There is no "right way" to use these collars. The very design is to stop a dog from doing something you don't want them to do. The only way that is possible is if it causes something negative that is likely to reduce the likelihood of that behavior. (Ex: I pull, prongs go in my neck, it is uncomfortable, so I stop. Is that training or avoidance?)
I am not shaming those that choose to use them. It is really hard for guardians to know what to use, especially when people you are paying as professionals suggest them. I know I won't convince those that swear by their tools, so I am speaking to those that don't feel comfortable with what other people are telling them to use. Those on the fence, and those looking for a better way. Those that are looking for a way to train without these tools. Those are the people I want to help. It is ultimately your decision, I just want it to be an informed one, not just for your sake, but your dogs.

A huge shout out to Teresa Lee Moore for my "shop warming" gift. I love my scratch boards and always wanted to make a scratch tube but just don't have the bandwidth to sit down and do it. She made me 2!! As well as adding some adorable balloon dog earings!! So grateful for the support!! Hope you can come out some time and see it in person!
So things are coming together...
Sweet memory of my crew back in TN when we performed at the Comedy Barn. is a fantastic family show with a variety of talented performers. I was blessed to be there for 12 years. It was one of my favorite jobs. I loved having fun with my gang and bringing joy to families.
New board and train for the next few weeks. Meet Cheerios!!
My husband got me this cool neon pup!!
Another new client. He's just an young adolescent with quite a bit of energy. His humans need help introducing him to their resident senior Dane, as well as work on leash manners. It was such a pleasure meeting him, look forward to working with this family.
Working with this beauty and her little puppy friend. Mostly working on the interest in the cats. Lots of barking and chase in a playful way, but the cats don't appreciate her energy. And puppy is starting to play along too! Had a great consultation and looking forward to helping her out.
Enjoying the sun while it lasts! Short training session on leash walking and recall.
Happy Larry!!
