Henri Lebasque was a French post-impressionist painter. He was born at Champigné (Maine-et-Loire). His work is represented in French museums, notably Angers, Geneva (Petit Palais), Lille (Musée des Beaux-Arts), Nantes, and Paris (Musée d’Orsay).

'The latest News' by Marcel Brunery, French (1893-1982)

Marcel Brunery

(1893 - 1982)

Marcel was the son of François Brunery (1849-1926), they innovated a particular style of painting in France during the late nineteenth century. This was the depiction of cardinals and other members of the clergy enjoying those temporal delights their calling allowed them.

Marcel Brunery was trained by his father and chose to paint in the same style, paying great attention to detail and vivid colouring. He was born in the late 1880’s and continued to paint into the middle years of the 20th Century, achieving a particular success in 1935 at the Salon des Independants.

The attention paid by Marcel Brunery to the settings in which they placed their narratives was incredibly detailed. He accurately reproduced every aspect of the rooms he painted - the fine tapestries and carpets, the furniture, the silver, satins, and silks - everything was perfect.

Today Marcel's paintings are as popular as his father’s and are collected throughout the world.

British sculptor Michael Thacker’s distinctive, abstract style sculptures are made from marble and local limestone, and Michael uses 24 carat hand-beaten gold leaf to reflect or accentuate light, with dramatic effect.

Michael studied Fine Art (Sculpture) at Loughborough University, graduating in 1999. He went on to study Stone Masonry at York College, where he was awarded the S & J Whitehead Award for Stonemasonry. Michael was awarded Associate membership of the Royal British Society of Sculptors in 2003.

'An exhibition of French Impressionists and Those they influenced'

The French Impressionists gave rise to a vast array of exciting paintings during the 19th century and spawned a number of members from across many of the British and European nations, including schools that reached further into the 20th century.
For the first time artists left their studios, painting out of doors and spontaneously 'on the spot', producing lively landscapes and scenes of everyday life.

During our exhibition, we hope to illustrate this and have cherry picked some of the most famous and renowned names from within our most recent acquisitions.

After a fun few days in Harrogate, we are back in the Cotswolds 😊
