Deliberate Coaching with Dr. Paulie Gavoni
1 Learning CEU

https://cecourses.affectingbehaviorchangenj.com/courses/deliberate-coaching

Decades of research on applying behavior analysis to business and leadership practices has given us a number of tools proven to be effective at creating meaningful behavior change in education. However, organizational behavior management (OBM) is not a one-stop-shop, only to be accessed when something goes wrong. The most effective behavior analysts leverage their role to proactively assess, collaboratively plan, and coach classroom, school, and district leaders to avoid the issue in the first place. They are deliberate with their performance-improvement efforts. Systemic culture change in the classroom or school comes through sustainable initiatives grounded in the science of human behavior. The purpose of this talk is to discuss the behavior analyst as the coach in the context of education while offering tips for sustainable behavior and performance management systems.

In this prerecorded CEU, the participant will be able to provide various ways coaching has been defined, demonstrated, and programmed and differentiate it from training.

The participant will be able to describe strategies for root cause analysis of performance issues through performance diagnostics.

The participant will be able to list ways to help ensure coaching initiatives are deliberate, effective and produce performance improvements that last.

Jacob has over 20 years of experience applying the principles of applied behaviour analysis in home programs, clinical and school-based setting as an ASD classroom teacher, educational consultant, and special education itinerant teacher. With the Global Autism Project, he oversees the clinical integrity of fifteen partner sites around the world with an international Telehealth supervisory model that is individualized to meet the learning needs of each partner site. To date, Jacob has travelled to thirteen different countries to collaborate with local clinicians to develop culturally-informed, socially significant, behaviour analytic strategies based on their local environment. Through these collaborations coupled with the need to monitor each partnerā€™s current level of achievement, internal assessments have been created to measure the effectiveness of Telehealth supervision and the skills of the overall centre or school to ensure that partnership is progressing and that local teachers are applying and independently utilizing the principles of applied behaviour analysis for their learners. The ethical challenges of disseminating ABA effectively throughout the world culminated in Understanding Ethics in Applied Behavior Analysis: Practical Applications which is currently in print and will be available in 2019. Jacob's key areas of interest are ethics, supervision, sustainable dissemination, and services across the lifespan.

Here's the on demand mastermind with Dr. Christen Russell where we review Friman (2021).

Abstract: From the beginning of recorded time human beings have assigned blame to persons who misbehave. The first prominent person to make an alternative case was Father Edward J. Flanagan, the founder of Boys Town, who proclaimed there was ā€œno such thing as a bad boy, only bad environment, bad modeling, and bad teachingā€ (Oursler & Oursler, 1949, p. 7) in other words, bad circumstances. This paper will refer to this perspective as the Circumstances View of problem behavior and anchor it as the foundational idea for the field of behavior analysis. This paper will discuss the origins of the Circumstances View, the benefits that result from its adoption, reasons why its adoption is not more widespread, and suggestions for disseminating it more widely.

New On-Demand CEU: A Behavior-Analytic Perspective on Treatment of Problem Gaming and Problem Social Media Use: 1 Learning CEU

https://cecourses.affectingbehaviorchangenj.com/courses/a-behavior-analytic-perspective-on-treatment-of-problem-gaming-and-problem-social-media-use

Hassan & Kyonka (2021)
Abstract: To characterize treatment studies for some forms of problematic internet use and identify ways behavior analysts might contribute, we reviewed published treatment studies for two subtypes of problematic internet use, problem gaming and problem social media use. Our search identified 41 treatment studies for problem gaming and none for problem social media use. Problem gaming treatment studies used a range of pharmaceutical, psychotherapeutic, and other treatment approaches and a variety of methods to measure problem gaming. None of the treatment approaches were primarily behavior analytic. Because there is no published research that focuses in particular on treating problem social media use, any research on interventions for problem social media use would be a novel contribution. Behavior analytic approaches could help to clarify the mechanisms involved in gaming, social media use, and related behaviors, and to differentiate problematic from healthy use. Behavior analysts could also contribute to this field by recording response patterns directly, developing standardized functional assessment questionnaires, and applying functional analysis to problem gaming and problem social media use. This is an emerging area of study that presents many opportunities for behavior-analytic research and practice. Reading the article and completing the 10 question quiz, participants will receive 1 Learning CEU.
