Happening in our Upper School. English elective - "A Sense of Place"
Senior student Camille is enjoying writing at our pond during her English course called “My Sense of Place.” ✍🏼
This hybrid writing and literature course explores the relationship between place, experience, and personal identity. How do places shape us? How do we impact our environments? How do we imagine beyond our own individual perceptions of time, scale, and embodiment? 📖
Over the course of the semester, students read literature—particularly memoir, environmental non-fiction, and poetry—that grapple with questions like this. In turn, students generate and workshop their own creative writing as they think critically and reflectively about their own place in the world. 📚
This course makes extensive use of Park’s 34-acre campus as a site of reflection and inspiration and asks that students engage in a multi-week creative writing project inspired by the work of Environmental Humanities scholar Lawrence Buell. The semester will culminate in a portfolio project and live reading of selected works! 🌳

We had a LOT of college representatives come out to visit with our Upper School students this week! Did you know that we currently have a 100% college acceptance rate?!
Our amazing Director of College & Life Counseling Julie Lewis does a fantastic job at helping our students through the application process from start to finish! Fun fact - Mrs. Lewis is also the 2023 NYS School Counselor of the Year!
