It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Coach Gary Wethington, our dedicated varsity/program pitching coach since 2022. Coach G was an important part of our Rock Island Baseball program, and his passion, knowledge, and experience to our student-athletes has left a lasting impact.

Coach G was always open to conversations about life and baseball, often seen joking and connecting with our athletes cheering them on with “atta boy" and "swing hard, in case you hit it." He was more than a coach; he was a mentor and a friend.

Every player on our team at every practice, began practice by shaking hands with him. The respect he earned was truly special to witness. His presence brought warmth and a sense of camaraderie that will be deeply missed and forever remembered within our program and community.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Coach G’s family during this difficult time. May you find solace in knowing how greatly he influenced and inspired all of us.

Coach G, your legacy will always be a part of Rock Island Rocks Baseball.

Congrats to Conner Diiulio for winning the prestigious James O’Melia Jr. Award last week! Extremely proud of his hard work and how he represents our program and school.

Congrats to RIHS students Eva Essman and Conner Dilulio who were awarded the James O'Melia Jr. Award today! The award is considered the highest honor that Rock Island High School bestows on student-athletes. One male and one female student-athlete receive the award each year. The Rock Island-Milan Booster Club supported the James O'Melia Jr. Athletic Recognition Award with a $1,000 college scholarship to each athlete. The award is given in memory of Rock Island High School graduate James O'Melia Jr. During his time as a student, James O'Melia Jr. was an outstanding multi-sport athlete.

Rock Island Baseballs annual banquet will be Monday, May 20th at 6pm at the QC Botanical Center. Your athletes will receive a hard copy of this form to bring home to parents!
