Justin Friello
Justin Friello is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Schenectady, NY.
I’m feeling so much better and ready for my last NY shows of the summer!
It’s with a heavy heart (and thick vocal cords) that I have to announce that tonight and tomorrow’s performances have been canceled. I tested positive for COVID this morning, which unfortunately means I’m down for the count for a bit.

It’s an honor not only to have my music performed by these incredible musicians and professors, but also to be on a program with such fine composers. I hope to see you there!
In August of 2022, I previewed a new album for a small group of listeners at The Planter in Cohoes, NY. Unbeknownst to me at the time, AGE of the BEAR got the whole thing on video. Here’s the first track.

“A Visit From St. Nicholas” • Happy Christmas Eve! I arranged this classic Christmas poem for the tenth volume in my holiday album series. You can find that recording on all streaming services. Watch my whole Christmas Livestream at https://youtu.be/heWU-H6pxNo?si=vr0Z0iAtNGztzah6

It’s impossible to touch Donny Hathaway’s original version (to say nothing of his daughter Lalah’s interpretation), but this is still one of the most fun Christmas songs I’ve performed throughout the years. Watch my whole Christmas Livestream at https://youtu.be/heWU-H6pxNo?si=LVGo31CdU-UDHkRU

“O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” - My favorite traditional tune this time of year. Because I played it on a Veillette Guitars Gryphon, I had to throw in a Dave Matthews Band interpolation.

Conexiones Divididas (2023)
I didn’t realize it at the start, but I had a great deal of responsibility in this collaboration. Ilse trusted me with the stories of her family in Mexico, particularly her deceased grandparents, one of whom recently passed. The voices of Ilse’s family and friends are the focal point of the music, and I felt a duty to honor not only their experiences, but also their lives, all of which they were so willing to share with me. I hope that comes through in the piece. I’m very proud of it.

Here's my collaborative project with Benjamin Shirey and Litzy Rea Valdez from Lumia Musica last weekend. This was very much out of my comfort zone: playing a keyboard instrument AND improvising, but it turned out incredible. Check it out!
