7 Uses for Orange Essential Oil
Orange essential oil is derived from the peels of sweet oranges. Although the oil itself isn’t sweet, it does have a number of amazing uses to improve your health because it is antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, improves blood circulation, and more. Keep reading to find out more about the uses for orange essential oil.
1. Mood Booster
One of the properties of orange essential oil is that it works as an anti-depressant, helping you feel uplifted even on a bad day. You can use 5 – 6 drops of oil in a low-heat diffuser, or, for faster results, place 2 drops on your palm, rub your palms together, then cup your hands over your nose to inhale the aroma and boost your mood. Be sure to wash your hands after because orange oil can make you more sensitive to the sun.
2. Facial Cleanser
Orange oil will help to dry out oily skin which can help you reduce acne, plus it has antiseptic properties that will kill acne-inducing bacteria. To overall reduce the oil on your skin, add 2 – 3 drops of oil to a cup of water and use that to wash your face in the evenings. You can also use it as a spot treatment directly on your acne by placing 1 drop on a cotton swab and rubbing that on acne spots.
3. Allergy Relief
Allergies are caused when small particles of allergens such as mold spores, dust, or pollen are inhaled and irritate the lining of the nasal passages, causing your body to react and the area to become inflamed. Orange essential oil can relieve the swelling that comes from allergies because it works as an anti-inflammatory and will help improve blood flow to the area.
There are a few ways you can relieve allergies by using orange essential oils. You can carry a vial with you and simply open it an inhale as needed, or you can keep a cotton ball with you that has several drops of oil on it for the same purpose.
4. Better Dental Hygiene
Because orange essential oils are great for killing bacteria, they can be used in your mouth to combat problems such as gingivitis, mouth ulcers, and bad breath. To improve your dental hygiene with orange oil, add ½ teaspoon of salt and 5 drops of orange oil to a cup of warm water. Then, swish the mixture around in your mouth for at least 1 minute and gargle it for at least 30 seconds before spitting it out.
5. Improved Digestion
Orange oil can help with a variety of digestive issues, including slow digestion, constipation, colic from adverse food reactions, and even flatulence by reducing painful gas buildup in the intestines and encouraging your body to create more digestive enzymes. You can either add 5 – 6 drops to a diffuser after eating, or add 3 – 4 drops to a carrier oil and massage over your abdominal area.
6. Arthritis Relief
Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, orange essential oil can be used to help treat arthritis, no matter what the underlying cause is. Begin with a tablespoon of melted coconut oil, then add 10 drops of orange oil. If you are experiencing pain, you can also add 2 – 3 drops of capsaicin oil to the mixture. Then, apply the oil directly to the affected joints, gently rubbing it in until all of it has been absorbed.
7. Disinfectant
Because orange oil is non-toxic and antiseptic, it works great as an alternative cleaning solution for counters and tables where you don’t want to use harsh chemicals that could be ingested. To make your own essential oil cleaning spray, simply add 10 drops of oil for every cup of water, then add to a spray bottle. Shake before using, and be sure to use a clean cloth to wipe down surfaces.

What are essential oils?
If you have ever enjoyed the scent of a rose, you’ve experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. These naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. Essential oils provide plants with protection against environmental threats and play a role in plant pollination. In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and being beautifully fragrant to people, essential oils have long been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health-care practices.
