The Nostalgia Mall

Hi, I'm The Nostalgia Mall aka Billy Coore. I make videos on YouTube involving things like old compu

Some sneak previews of some of the videos you can expect to see this year on Nostalgia Mall Christmas; replacing the PSU in the Packard Bell Legend 822CDT, an overview of the Gateway Select, a look at Protoweb, a 1993 JVC VHS-C camcorder, among others.

Finally upgraded my main computer from 16GB RAM to 32GB RAM last week, the most I've ever had in a computer. I was still getting along well with 16GB, but needed to future proof. Main upgrade my computer really needs is a new GPU.

28 years ago tonight was when I was introduced to the Packard Bell Legend 822CDT.

05/12/2023

My Gateway Select came with a Turtle Beach Aureal Vortex 1 sound card, which I was initially excited about. Unfortunately, many DOS games would not run properly with it, sometimes even crashing the computer. I replaced it with my YAMAHA XG PCI sound card and now it works great. I actually prefer the YAMAHA card anyway because the AdLib emulation is the most accurate I've heard on a PCI card. Also, the Gateway did not come with the Aureal originally.

Packard Bell PB 1700CD Computer #Packvember 04/12/2023

I wasn't the only participant in this year. My friend Lmull3 did a couple of videos of some Packard Bells he recently got. Here's one of them. Hoping to make a video during Nostalgia Mall Christmas.

I did a poll on my Twitter account (or is it X? I don't know what it's called this week) asking my viewers if they'd like to see my 1998 VHS footage of the Tanglewood Festival of Lights in the background of my Nostalgia Mall Christmas intro video this year, or to use HD 2023 footage I plan to record when I go Friday. The majority has ruled and I will be using the 1998 footage this year, with maybe some from my 1999 tape if I need more. I still plan to record this year's show as a possible bonus video.

02/12/2023

Here is the computer I brought home today. This is a Gateway Select, built June 2000. I've been after a Gateway with this case design for awhile. Has a 700MHz AMD Athlon, 256MB RAM, and an NVIDIA Riva TNT2 video card. Had to drive to Charlotte to get it, but it was worth it. Needs some cleaning up but once I do that, I'll be making it the subject of a Nostalgia Mall Christmas video.

01/12/2023

In addition to Nostalgia Mall Christmas, I will be sprinkling in some bonus vintage Christmas commercials I've found over the past year while collecting that I plan to upload to my RetromercialBilly channel throughout December.

30/11/2023

No stream tomorrow night. Will be gone tomorrow afternoon/evening picking up a vintage computer for a Nostalgia Mall Christmas video.

30/11/2023

Will be taking a break for the next two weeks to record some videos for Nostalgia Mall Christmas 2023. This is my 10th year doing this. Videos will begin December 13th. As for the weekly livestream, I'm hoping to still do that.

29/11/2023

Receiving a lot of comments about the cricket noise in today's video. This is indeed the PSU fan. Did not realize the noise had gotten that bad. Will do a PSU replacement for one of my Christmas videos. Thank you everyone for the feedback and my apologies for the noise.

29/11/2023

Sneak preview of tomorrow's final video for this year. Spoiler alert; Windows 95 runs MUCH better.

24/11/2023

One more video that needs to be done. The final one is traditionally the Legend 822CDT, which will be no exception this year. I just gotta make it more unique.

Packard Bell Platinum I Unboxing and Setup going live tomorrow morning.

Good news. Went to Goodwill today and found another Backpack parallel port CD-ROM drive and unlike the other one, it works great with the HP Vectra 486. I have now hooked it up to my capture setup and will now be using it as my streaming computer for Windows 3.11 stuff.

Quick reminder that I will be at the beach tomorrow through Sunday and will be unable to do my Friday livestream, unless I decide to do a random Q/A chat on my phone with the ocean in the background.

I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end of this week's video. Unfortunately the video files are lost and I can't retrieve them.

The Platinum I is here.

11/11/2023

Assuming any issues I may encounter with the Packard Bell Platinum I, if any, are easily fixable, the video of its restore and setup will go live Wednesday, November 22, day before Thanksgiving. This week's video will be me doing something to a Packard Bell I said I'd never do...

10/11/2023

I am happy to announce that a new Packard Bell will be added to my collection next week. I have purchased another Packard Bell Platinum I (this will be my fourth, I foolishly sold the others years ago). This will be the highlight of 2023.

My Packard Bell Computer 09/11/2023

I recently remembered that this month marks 15 years since I posted not only my first Packard Bell video, but my first computer video. Here it is in all its 240p glory.

Grayscale, PC speaker shenanigans coming this Wednesday.

03/11/2023

Picked up this little beauty at Goodwill today for $25. Just needed RAM and an SSD. It has a sixth gen Core i5, 256GB SSD, 16GB RAM, and my old RX560 video card. Planning to use it as a secondary desktop for when I'm rendering video on my main desktop (not the best GPU).

02/11/2023

Gonna be installing an SSD in a mid-2009 iMac tomorrow. I might not make it out alive.

For Halloween this year, I'm dressing as the scariest thing imaginable; a guy from North Carolina who makes videos about Packard Bell computers.
