It's that time of year again - The Met Ball. This year there seemed to be two themes with Sleeping Beauty: Reawakening Fashion and also The Garden of Time. I know we chuckle when we see some of the outfits but really I just accept it for what it is now which is basically a fancy dress show. Having seen some of the outfits from previous Met Galas at recent exhibitions I've been to I don't think photos do justice to some of the textures, embellishments and work that goes into some of the designer outfits. Photos can make things look flat. I think some celebrities this year interpreted Sleeping Beauty as just waking up in the altogether with barely there coverage. There were also lots of flower themed designs. I had a look out for corsets which featured heavily again with John Galliano's recent show for Maison Margiela influencing a lot of the looks and make up.
A few photos from my visit to the Sargent and Fashion exhibition at Tate Britain this week. The paintings were beautiful and an added attraction was that some of the costumes featured in them were also displayed. His paintings are a great resource of late Victorian Fashion at a time when Haute Couture was taking off.
If you're at a loose end today get down to Parklands Social Club on Wheatley Hall Road (old ICI) for a bit of vintage

Ho, Ho, Ho! Merry Christmas...
To early? Nah, not at all. Since our Christmas Winter Wonderland and 1940s Christmas is on 10th December 2023.
We will be opening the doors for the last time this year and hoping to have a great crowd join us for the last event.
There is a special visitor coming and you will need to keep an eye out for our Naughty Elf, who is very mischievous and keeps moving around the museum during the day.
Will Scrooge steal the show, or will the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future help him to be more festive?
We look forward to seeing you all on the last event of the year at the South Yorkshire Transport Museum. 10.30am till 4.00pm - 10th December 2023.
