Reminder that women weren't just sitting at home, cooking and taking care of babies during World War II.

TODAY IN HISTORY!
1943 โ€“ The first group of 71 female Marine officer candidates arrived at U.S. Midshipmen School (Women's Reserve) at Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. The Navy's readiness to share its training facilities allowed the group of women to begin their training just one month after the Marine Corps Women's Reserve was created.

Coming up this weekend...total LUNAR eclipse preceding the full SOLAR eclipse two weeks later, visible in all of the Americas!

Heads up! Half of Earth - that is, in Japan, in the eastern half of Australia, in the Americas, in the western half of Africa and western Europe - and several oceans and parts of Antarctica - will see a deep penumbral eclipse of the moon on March 24-25. This eclipse begins the eclipse season during which we'll also have the April 8 total solar eclipse ... shortly due to be seen by millions in North America.

Mercury is always close to the horizon, Sunday March 24th looks to be a good evening to see it...without cloud cover.

Our sun's innermost planet, Mercury, is visible in the evening sky now from across the globe. And, from Earth's Northern Hemisphere, this is a particularly good time to look for Mercury in the evening. Look in the west as the sky is darkening. Mercury is bright! The planet will reach its greatest distance from the sun on March 24.

We tend to pay a lot of attention to supermoons - when the moon is both full and closer than usual to Earth. But lets show some love to the February 2024 full moon, which is a micromoon. That means it's full, but unusually far from Earth. In fact, this Snow Moon - the name for February's full moon every year - will be the smallest moon of 2024. But it will still look large and full when it crests tomorrow at 12:30 UTC (6:30 a.m. CST). That's about 30 minutes before sunrise Saturday in central North America; get up a little early and you'll be treated to a great sight.

Look up to see Orion the Hunter! ๐ŸŒŒ

You've probably seen it before. Itโ€™s a constant companion on winter evenings in the Northern Hemisphere, and on summer nights in the Southern Hemisphere. Plus, itโ€™s probably the easiest constellation to spot thanks to its distinctive Belt. Orionโ€™s Belt consists of 3 medium-bright stars in a short, straight row at the Hunterโ€™s waistline. So if you see any 3 equally-bright stars in a row this evening, youโ€™re probably looking at Orion.

โ€œDon't be suspicious. Don't be suspicious. Don't be suspicious. Don't be suspiciousโ€ฆโ€

Nothing to see here. Just a couple of turkeys out for a stroll, staying on the path, sharing the adventure with friends. Traveling in a group is not only more fun, it is often safer than going alone especially if you are inexperienced on the trail. Traveling with a group means there are more turkeys looking out for each other. If possible bring an experienced turkey that can help identify and avoid hazards, like hitting an icy patch leading to a terrifying twerky turkey display of epic proportions. Wow. Didnโ€™t know feathers could do that.
